The Buffalo Bills are back in the AFC Championship game after the 2020 season. They defeated the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round on Sunday, January 19. Though they had a close win 27-25, their QB, Josh Allen, seemed quite upset with what happened on the field. Let’s know why!
During a post-game presser, Allen subtly threw his offensive linemen under the bus. By praising the defense, Allen said, “I think we’re having success in the running game, obviously when your defense forces turnovers like they did tonight, it puts you in a favorable position where you know you don’t have to throw that much and again we just relied on our running backs like we have all year relied on our o-line. They did a heck of a job.” He simply implied that they could have scored more then what they achieved.
Well, no doubt the turnovers have surely helped the Bills against the Ravens. In total, Lamar Jackson’s team finished with three turnovers, which helped Josh Allen’s team to score 10 points. However, they could have scored more. That’s why, Allen is still not happy, as he feels it was a bit of luck on their side. Additionally, as per him, the defense of the squad helped them to recover the ball again and again.

Nevertheless, as the Bills are into the AFC Championship, Josh Allen and the team are waiting for Patrick Mahomes’s battle at Arrowhead. Until then, he and his team have a lot to learn from this divisional-round win. And the QB surely had some issues with his O-Line.
Josh Allen is unhappy with Sean McDermott’s offensive plays?
The Bills edged out the Ravens 27-25, earning a spot in the AFC championship against the Chiefs. But, let’s be real – it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Buffalo played it a bit too safe, especially on offense. The game plan leaned heavily on the run, pounding the ground 36 times. Even Josh Allen, who is usually the playmaker, had just 22 pass attempts. And that too, mostly were short throws. So, what was his longest? It was a 34-yard pass to Khalil Shakir. In fact, wide receivers like Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper were also practically invisible, with just two targets between them.
In addition, there was a moment when the Bills could have controlled the clock for over 31 minutes. But instead, they struggled to make big plays. The next big moment came on fourth down at the two-yard line with just over three minutes left. In that, coach Sean McDermott chose the safe route, kicking a field goal. This decision, although put them up by eight, also left the door open for the Ravens to make a comeback. However, a dropped two-point conversion by Mark Andrews saved their day, but that story is sure to be debated.

Hence, while speaking at the same presser after the game, Josh Allen talked about offensive mistakes and decisions, “I mean the first turnover we didn’t get any points off of it or didn’t score a touchdown I should say I don’t know if we got points to be honest.” Talking about the punt, he added, “I think we punted right so that’s one thing you know your defense is doing a good enough job of forcing turnovers, you got to make sure that you capitalize on the offensive side of the ball. We didn’t feel like we did enough of that tonight, so again, stuff to learn from but we move on.” The Bills might take a cue from their QB’s comments and commit to not repeat these shortcomings in the Conference Championship game.
The Bills and the Chiefs will be facing each other on January 26 at 6:30 p.m. It’s a thriller for which everyone is waiting for!
