The San Francisco 49ers didn’t have the season as per everyone’s expectations. From being the Super Bowl runner up to not even landing in the playoffs, it was an uphill battle for them. Nevertheless, once again, the franchise is rolling everything in and out to build their team. But amidst this, Kyle Shanahan’s team is set to lose one of their top running backs.

With running back, we didn’t mean Christian McCaffrey, of course. He is signed up till 2027. But who we meant is none other than Jordan Mason. The 25-year-old player, who is a restricted free agent, is an interesting candidate for other teams. At least that’s what NFL reporter David Lombardi thinks.

During his recent talk, Lombardi pointed out a few good things for Kyle Shanahan’s team. One –This guy’s at the top of the league in some of these running back metrics. So, there should be some interest league wise for Jordan Mason services.” Two – They can use him to trade and exchange a pick. How? Well, Lombardi cleared that as well.

According to him,The 49ers will have the opportunity to tender Jordan Mason at either the first round level, the second round level or the original round level. And this is this guy who is an unrestricted or undrafted free agent. So, the original round would mean they wouldn’t stand to get any draft compensation back. But this first round level means you pay Jordan Mason or you offer him, I think something close to $10 million, and if some team decides to offer him more and you don’t want to match it you get a first-round draft pick in return. If you second round tender him, it’s going to be about $7 million. Same thing happens, and he leaves for more money elsewhere.”

In this way, “You get a second-round draft pick in return. So, it’s a good way to make sure that you at least have the right of first refusal, if you are the San Francisco 49ers.” Mason signed a 3 year, $2,570,000 contract in 2022. His numbers last season were good. This is evident in the stats—In 2024, the LB played in 12 games with a record of 153 attempts for 789 yards and 3 touchdowns. In fact, he made 11 receptions for 91 yards in the season. Furthermore, he proved he can be a bruising, physical runner, especially when filling in for McCaffrey (after his injury). So, being such an elite RB, why do you think Kyle Shanahan and the team might be parting ways with him?

This question raised another query: Does Jordan Mason fit the 49ers’s offensive system? As per Lombardi, his receiving chemistry with QB Brock Purdy wasn’t as strong as others. Hence, this could impact how much Kyle Shanahan’s team values him. No doubt, the running backs are making big moves lately – Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and others are proving their worth. So, it’s quite possible that Mason could be next in line for a big payday.

What’s your perspective on:

Is parting with Jordan Mason a smart move, or a mistake the 49ers will regret?

Until then, Kyle Shanahan has one more offer coming up for him. One that could bring two brothers to one stage!

Will Kyle Shanahan have the brothers in?

On Instagram last year, Nick Bosa and Joey Bosa’s mother shared a graphic which shook many. Mom Cheryl Bosa posted a picture of both her sons in the Niners’s jersey, writing, “OMG! Do it for Mama [bear].” She requested her sons as well as the teams (Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers and Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers) to talk and make this happen. Now once again, she is actively campaigning for the same.

So, here’s the case. Joey Bosa’s future in L.A. is hanging by a thread. His $36.5 million cap hit in 2025 is a big problem for the Chargers. If they cut him, they save over $25 million. That makes him a hot target for teams looking for a game-changing pass rusher. But one destination feels different—playing alongside his brother, Nick Bosa, in Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco. So, will they come together?

Back in June 2024, Joey was asked about teaming up with Nick one day. And his answer was – “It’d be pretty cool at some point.” Now, that moment could be closer than ever. And if things fall into place, their mother, Cheryl Bosa, might finally see her dream come true.
