Jordan Love, who succeeded the 4x NFL MVP as the Packers’ starting QB is in line for something big. The Packers were apprehensive whether he would be able to lead them the way Rodgers had done for 18 seasons. We can’t comment on that yet, but in his debut season as a starter, he led his squad to the Divisional Round.

And to compensate him for his contribution to the team, the Cheeseheads are going to reward him richly. So richly that his new contract is set to eclipse that of his predecessor.

Jordan Love’s upcoming contract extension is poised to make history for the Green Bay Packers. It would surpass Aaron Rodgers’ deal as the largest in franchise history. According to Michael Ginnitti of Spotrac, Love’s projected four-year contract is estimated at a staggering $200 million. That means he’ll be raking in an annual salary of $50 million. The total contract value exceeds Rodgers’ agreement signed in 2022, which totaled $150.8 million over three years.

Considering the way he has played, he wouldn’t play in 2024 with his paltry current one-year, $11 million contract. The extension includes a $50 million signing bonus and $87.5 million fully guaranteed at signing. Additionally, large roster bonuses are also included in the deal, ensuring substantial practical guarantees amounting to $150 million.

Why this dramatic increase in QB salary? It’s been fueled by a significant increase in the salary cap, with the 2024 cap set at $255.4 million. Not only that, an additional $74 million per franchise is allocated for player benefits. This substantial cap growth is expected to further inflate free-agent contracts, benefiting players like Love. However, beyond the financial implications, Love’s stellar performance in 2023 has been the primary driver behind his anticipated pay raise.

Under Love’s guidance, the Packers finished the season with a 9-8 record. They also managed to clinch the No. 7 seed in the NFC playoffs. Despite facing adversity, Love led the team to a commanding road victory against the Dallas Cowboys during Super Wildcard Weekend. Moreover, the Packers held a fourth-quarter lead over the eventual NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, narrowly missing out on a trip to the conference championship game.

At just 25 years old, Love appears destined to guide the Packers to sustained success for the foreseeable future, potentially solidifying his role as the team’s franchise QB for the next decade and beyond.
