As the snow melts in Green Bay, the Packers are left pondering a question at Lambeau Field: ‘Who’s catching the football next year?’ Sure, there’s potential in the current wide receiver group, but potential does not fill up highlight reels—or win playoff games. After their 10-22 Wild Card exit to the Eagles, the WR room feels less like a Super Bowl-caliber unit and more like a waiting room for greatness.
Here’s the brutal truth: The Packers don’t have a true WR1. They’ve got a room full of supporting acts but no leading man. And it’s not just the fans saying this; the Packers’ running back Josh Jacobs practically shouted it from the rooftops, calling for a ‘real WR’ to help this offense. However, there’s good news: a star in the name of Myles Garrett is heading their way.
While one of the players feels a certain way, their quarterback, Jordan Love, in an interview, shared his thoughts on the WR crisis. He said, “At the end of the day… the guys we have at the locker room, going into the training camp…I’m a competitor…it doesn’t matter who we got.” Then he spoke about the new draft coming in: “Obviously, every year it’s new teams, faces change, you get a new draft class coming in, so you got to find ways with the guys you’ve got in the building to do some great things.” Ending the conversation with his spirited mentality saying “If we add a guy, we add a guy, if we don’t we don’t” emphasizing he is willing to make the best out of the situation.

Jordan Love doesn’t think the Packers HAVE TO add a no. 1 WR… 🤷♂️🔊

Possibilities for the Packers’ predicament
Now, what’s the plan? Well, the Packers have options, and they’d better use them wisely. Free agency could be the ticket– guys like Tee Higgins or Michael Pittman Jr. would immediately elevate this group. Or maybe Green Bay swings a trade. If there’s ever a time to pull the trigger on acquiring a star, it’s now. There’s been a lot of buzz lately about a possible trade that could send Cleveland Browns superstar defensive end Myles Garrett to the Green Bay Packers. Garrett, a six-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Player of the Year, has reportedly asked for a trade, saying he wants a shot at playing for a legit Super Bowl contender. Also, let’s not forget the draft. While rookies take time to develop, Green Bay could snag a top-tier prospect to grow alongside Reed and Doubs.

The bottom line is this: if the Packers want to help Jordan Love evolve into a franchise quarterback, they need to get him some real firepower. Love showed flashes of brilliance in 2024, but the lack of playmakers made it tough for him to shine consistently.
So, to put it plainly, the Packers need a star. To get a player, the defenses fear. Lambeau Field deserves more touchdowns and fewer ‘what ifs’. The clock is ticking—don’t waste it.
