"Joe Burrow in the same league as Brady and Mahomes—Is he the next NFL legend in the making?"

NFL has been a town full of diverse talents. Just in the QB club, there have been players ranging from the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, and Tom Brady These individuals are known not only for their impact on football fans but for spreading their fanbase to industries including music, entertainment, other sports and commercials. Thus, garnering worldwide recognition. Surprisingly, a new member has joined this elite club, all thanks to Lil Wayne who played a shoutout for Joe Burrow in his style.

“Reppin LSU like I’m Joe Burrow,” Wayne said in Flau’jae’s latest track “Came Out A Beast” which featured him. Flau’jae Johnson might not have been a rapper at first in her career, but she sure is an LSU women’s basketball star. She dropped her debut album with President Carter named, “Best of Both Worlds.” It’s the best of both worlds indeed, her basketball career at LSU and her first album with Lil Wayne, a Louisiana native. Burrow’s LSU time got the rapper’s attention, after all, it witnessed the QB gathering numerous accolades.

In his last season at LSU, he threw for 5,671 yards with 60 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. If that’s not monumental, he also won the CFP National Champion against Clemson, 42-35. Additionally, Joey B also won the Heisman Trophy over Jalen Hurts that year as he became the first SEC quarterback to throw over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in a season.

His rival in the Championship game was none other than Trevor Lawrence. Both players are the highest-paid QBs in the league today. Burrow’s right-hand man Ja’Marr Chase backed him in the CFP Championship game, and he is still with him on the field to this day.

In a sense, that shoutout from Lil Wayne was a much-needed recall of Burrow’s “Beast” season at LSU that got him the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft for the Cincinnati Bengals. The last season did not end ideally for Joe Burrow and this reminder could help him make a comeback. After putting in his blood and sweat in the 2023 NFL games, the QB was met with a wrist injury, taking him out of the season completely. However, the story of injuries isn’t new to Burrow. He has been there in 2020 and even silenced every naysayer with the Comeback Player of the Year (2021). Now, a similar avidity is expected of the QB.

Expectedly though, Joe Burrow isn’t the only NFL star to receive praise from the music industry geniuses. Players like Mahomes and Brady also have been among the muses to inspire artists like Drake and Nicki Minaj to tune their lyrics around them!

The time when Drake namedropped Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes got a feature in Drake’s “Lemon Pepper Freestyle,” back in 2021. Besides the obvious controversy about Drake, his penmanship in the song is not to be undermined, “Patty Mahomes ’bout to fall short a couple hunnid (hundred), wrote Drake in the song. On March 3, 2024, Mahomes also posted on X with three fire emojis appreciating the musicians, “@Drake and @JColeNC concert was crazyyy!!” As the music stars were in the city, the QB made sure to reciprocate his appreciation for their talent.

Speaking of Tom Brady, Nicki Minaj mentioned him in her song “Frozen” saying, “2012, I was ballin’ like Tom Brady,” a pretty common reference for his 4,827-yard season with the New England Patriots, but an AFC Championship loss to the Baltimore Ravens.  While rappers like Lil Wayne did have QB’s back, he has been praised by Brat Scott, an avid Bengals hater. Scott said, “Right now, if you have to ask yourself if anybody proved that they can potentially be the rival of Patrick Mahomes, it’s Lou Anarumo as a defender, being able to defend Patrick and it’s Joe Burrow being able to match him throw for throw.”
