Aaron Rodgers immediately shot to stardom after Brett Favre left to play for the New York Jets. After winning 4 MVPs A-Rod will surely be included in the “legends” conversation sooner or later. However, Maxx Crosby chose to have the conversation now, rather than waiting for the veteran’s retirement.
The Raiders DE asked Johnny Manziel’s opinion on A-Rod and The Gunslinger. But the former NFL QB had difficulty deciding who to pick as a better player. Per Manziel, Favre “had one of the biggest like cannons“, but he emphasized that both Rodgers and his predecessor are “two of the most natural throwers of the football.”
Expanding on the debate, Manziel opined the comparison isn’t even close as A-Rod is a “better natural flicker” but Favre also “could do it for sure and was the guy.” Manziel felt divided and failed to pick a clear winner, stating, “Favre to me will always be a bigger legend. I love Aaron. For me, this is like I can’t even decide.”

He further explained, “one shaped my whole life growing up and then when I get to the NFL and you turn on film and you watch what they were doing and what him [Rodgers] and Davante did like, different.”
Of course, there are pros and cons to both Rodgers and Favre, but as far as QBs go, interception is a huge part of their metrics and Brett Favre surely fell short to A-Rod in that department. Favre has the greatest number of interceptions to this day, with a whopping 336 interceptions in 20 seasons. Rodgers, on the contrary, has almost 3 times fewer interceptions (105) than the Gunslinger.
However, at one point, Favre had the most passing yards in the league (71,838), which were later surpassed by Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning. To this day, Favre also has the second most wins by a QB and Rodgers stands sixth in that metric for now.
But there’s much more to Aaron Rodgers. Johnny Manziel talked about the Rodgers-Davante Adams connection and how there’s a lot to unpack there.
A trip back in time with Rodgers and Davante leading the Packers
The December 28, 2020 game against the Tennessee Titans was the pinnacle of A-Rod and Adams’ record-breaking partnership. The Green Bay Packers dominated the Tennessee Titans with a 40-14 win as Rodgers came out with 235 yards, 4 touchdowns, and one interception. While stats are a myopic way to look at a situation, the day changed Davante Adams’ career forever.

Adams had 11 receptions over 142 yards, which marked 492 completions between the QB and his receiver in seven seasons. In comparison, Favre and his receiver Donald Driver had 486 completions throughout 9 seasons. Rodgers and Adams broke the franchise record that day.

Adams had 3 touchdowns in that game, becoming the first player in NFL history to have 100+ receptions and 16+ touchdowns in a season, though that record might be broken now. Achieving this feat put Davante Adams with Hall of Famers Randy Moss and Cris Carter, and Rodgers had a significant hand in Adams’ career and he did it faster than Favre.
Interestingly, both players ended up joining the Jets after their departure from the Packers. While Favre’s career is done and dusted with, there are still blank pages to write in Rodgers’ NFL career. Maybe will all the hype, we might witness some surprising things this year. And maybe the veteran will tilt Manziel’s indecision in his favor.
