“You know nothing, Mark Snow”. TE Mark Andrews should have paid caution to the snow at the Highmark Stadium. It wasn’t a regular season game. It was playoff football. There would be no second chance. But he kept practicing sleeveless. The Ravens hyped him up too, in an unfortunate tweet. During the game, he made a critical mistake at the 8:50 mark in the 4th quarter as his Ravens attempted to take a comeback lead against the Bills. The tight end had the first down and more, entering Bills’ territory. He could have simply gone down and taken the yards. But he chose to try and pinch a few more yards by juking the defenders. He would have been in highlight reels if he pulled it off. But ended up in them with a spectacular failure yet to come. The turnover gave the ball back to the home team, who scored a field goal on the drive to stretch their lead to 27-19.

He made another critical mistake, letting down the reigning MVP who kept the faith and targeted him despite earlier mistakes. It was a simple enough catch that would have tied the game. Under the 2-minute warning, the Ravens went for a 2-point conversion with a gust of wind beneath their wings. 27-25. A chance to tie the game, having trailed 21-10 at halftime. Lamar Jackson ran to his right before throwing the ball to the tight end. He was in clear space, but as he fell backward across the goal line, the ball slipped out of his hands. He really should’ve respected the snow.

Had he caught the ball, the narrative would have been very different. His turnovers would be forgiven. His sleeveless practice clip hyped all across the internet. Most importantly, the Ravens possibly in the Conference clash. Their HC John Harbaugh watched from the sidelines, disappointment written all over his face. In the post-game conference, however, he didn’t let his dejection translate into words. Harbaugh sent a clear message to the Ravens flock and defended his player. He said, “We wouldn’t be here without Mark Andrews. Mark will handle this fantastically because he’s a high-character person, a tough person, and a good person. Proud of him like I’m proud of all the guys.” That’s solid praise. And right as well.

Mark Andrews had his most successful NFL season in 2024 with 11 TDs in 17 games (13 starting). With 55 receptions in 673 receiving yards, he also helped them to build plays. The drop couldn’t have come at a worse time. But he wasn’t the only one who made costly errors. In the second quarter, Lamar Jackson fumble starting inside the Buffalo 30 resulted in a touchdown for the Bills on the subsequent drive. There were others too. Speaking after the game, Jackson was in line with his HC. Despite letting expletives fly to express his frustration with the locker room, he refused to single out Andrews.

While the Ravens squad defended one of their own from the media, the rest of the flock went stark raving mad. They came at him from all angles, naming him as the reason behind the loss.

Fans demand Mark Andrews’ retirement

The Ravens’ star-studded O-line did everything to win the game. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry had the Bills‘ defense on their toes. But fans got angry over the weak link, Mark Andrews. Frustrated by his key mistakes, they demanded the Ravens’ management release him immediately. Going by John Harbaugh’s comments and his performances in the regular season, it sounds laughable. He has been with the Ravens since his rookie season in 2018 and is one of their best talents.

The criticism was a little overboard. Mark Andrews is a gem of a person. In February last year, he was aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Baltimore to Phoenix, Arizona when a co-passenger started having a mid-air emergency. The Ravens TE carries a type 1 diabetic test kit as he has diabetes. He showed the doctors and nurse on the flight how to use it, and helped them revive the woman. After the flight landed, he quietly left the airport.

It was a bad result. For him and his flock. Hopefully, he doesn’t let it get in the way of the progress he has shown for the Ravens this season. Ravens. together. strong.
