For over a decade, Justin Tucker has been the guy when it comes to kicking in the NFL. With a career field goal percentage of 90.2%, he’s been the Ravens’ rock, nailing clutch kicks and earning six Pro Bowl selections along the way. But football is a business, and no matter how good a player is, teams always have to think ahead.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that the team is scouting kickers in this year’s draft, but he made it clear this decision isn’t about the recent allegations against Tucker. “We’re looking at kickers,” Harbaugh said. “Justin’s our guy, we love him, but we have to evaluate every position like we always do.” Tucker is still under contract through 2027, but Baltimore is just being smart—no player, no matter how legendary, plays forever.

The allegations involve 16 massage therapists from eight different spas in the Baltimore area, who accuse Tucker of inappropriate sexual behavior between 2012 and 2016. These claims include intentional exposure and unwanted physical contact, leading to Tucker being banned from two of the establishments. Tucker has categorically denied the accusations, labeling them “unequivocally false.”

For now, the Ravens are stuck in wait-and-see mode. They clearly still value Tucker, but they also have to be prepared for whatever happens next. Whether or not they draft a kicker this year, Baltimore is covering all bases—just in case.

Ravens GM breaks silence on Justin Tucker situation

The Ravens find themselves in an undesirable situation involving their star kicker, Justin Tucker. And a wave of serious allegations. GM Eric DeCosta finally spoke up, but if you were hoping for a definitive answer. Buckle up because that’s not happening yet. He called the situation “serious and concerning”. But made it clear Baltimore is sitting back while the NFL takes the wheel. “We’re fortunate that the league is doing an investigation. We’ll wait as patiently as we can for as much information as we can. We’ll make our decisions based on that,” he said. In other words: We don’t know yet, so don’t ask us.

The NFL, however, is already deep into its investigation. League officials have started questioning multiple accusers, and Commissioner Roger Goodell isn’t downplaying the situation. “We will look into those issues. They’re obviously serious issues,” he said. Which, in commissioner-speak, translates to this is bad, and we know it. The Ravens are hoping for clarity, but right now, all they can do is hold their breath and wait. The only thing clear at this point? Tucker’s future in Baltimore isn’t as untouchable as it once seemed.

For longtime Ravens fans, this whole situation probably feels way too familiar. It was 2014 when Ray Rice’s career imploded after footage of him assaulting his fiancée in an elevator went viral. The Ravens dropped him, the NFL suspended him indefinitely, and his name has been a cautionary tale ever since. After him, there was Will Hill, who racked up suspensions for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Eventually, Baltimore finally cut him loose in 2016. Bottom line? This team is no stranger to such controversies. And that’s why they’re taking their sweet time before making a call on Tucker.

So what’s next? Right now, nothing but radio silence. The Ravens are in full-on wait-and-see mode, hoping they won’t have to make another franchise-altering decision. But one thing’s for sure: this story is far from over, and when the hammer finally drops, it’s gonna hit hard.
