Is Russell Wilson good enough to give the Giants a year or two while they hunt for their next franchise QB? This offseason, the Giants’ problems are running deeper than just quarterback. After a 3-14 season, John Mara decided to give HC Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen another shot. But their future might hinge on this season going perfectly to plan. That means they don’t have an HC and GM assured for the long term.

For the QB situation, the team tried to snag Matthew Stafford, but that ship has sailed now. Aaron Rodgers is more into the Vikings and the Steelers than them. So now they are sitting across from Russ, trying to decide if he’s the answer. Last week, they signed Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal. But does bringing in Winston solve their QB worries? Should the Giants be aiming higher?

Meanwhile, Deion Sanders is out here campaigning for his son, Shedeur Sanders. Well, we will get to that. But here, the situation for the Giants is they have to play it right because one wrong move and this whole thing can blow up in their faces once again. SI’s Conor Orr and Albert Breer recently discussed the Giants’ QB crisis, and Conor believes the team is in real trouble this offseason. “Right now, Jameis Winston is your only veteran quarterback on the roster. Now, is Russell Wilson in play, Kirk Cousins in play? Possibly. And you’re just going to do the two-vet thing and you’re going to hope that you have enough gas to win nine games…I’m worried about the Giants right now.

Talking about acquiring Kirk Cousins in a trade with the Falcons,  Albert Breer believes that Kirk might give the Giants the time that maybe Russ can’t. I don’t think they’re out of the Rodgers thing with Jameis there. I’d be a little surprised if it wound up being Russell. To me, like, if I’m them, I’m probably trying to trade for Kirk Cousins,” notes Breer.“I think Kirk still has good football left. He can give you a year or two to buy you time to find the next guy.”

The Giants have the third draft pick this year, but the team might not want to waste it if they aren’t fully sold on the available QB prospects. Breer believes the Giants shouldn’t feel pressured to take a quarterback with their first pick. Instead, they could take their time and find the right guy. Maybe in the second round of the draft. Someone like Jaxson Dart. If the Giants aren’t convinced with any of this year’s QB prospects, Kirk Cousins could buy them a year, giving them time to find someone in the next Draft.

With 288 career TDs, Cousins has the experience and reliability that Breer thinks the Giants need. Maybe it’s Garrett Nussmeier or Drew Allar or Lenor Sellers or one of the guys who would be in the ’26 draft,” notes Breer. Of course, Russell Wilson is a Super Bowl winner himself, so let’s not get disrespectful. However, he did visit the Giants a couple of weeks ago and they weren’t impressed enough to make him an offer on the spot.

Now, Deion Sanders is keeping a close eye on the Giants’ draft plans, hoping they make a certain move with their third pick.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Russell Wilson really be the savior the Giants need, or is it time for Kirk Cousins?

Deion Sanders hoping Joe Schoen makes that pick

Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the two favorite QB prospects this year. And the Titans and Browns have the first two picks. Interestingly, both these teams are QB ‘needy.’ Tennessee might not be placing their bets on Will Levis for another season. And the Browns are more than ready to move on from Deshaun Watson. So, if Tennessee goes with the highly favored Cam Ward, there are chances that the Browns pick Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur’s father, Deion, is hoping for his son to land with the Giants. The HC of the Colorado Buffaloes was at the ProMat Conference in Chicago on Monday. When reporters tossed a question about his son, asking where he would want Shedeur to end up, Deion replied, “Let’s hope it’s New York,” referencing the Giants.

But the Titans and Browns are huge roadblocks in Deion’s dream. And it’s also not sure if Joe Schoen and the team even want to draft Shedeur. So, for now, it’s just uncertainty. Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock dropped after the Combine when an anonymous head coach claimed that the young QB came across as arrogant and brash. That criticism certainly pushed Miami’s Cam Ward ahead as the favorite.

But Deion is not keeping silent on all those claims. The lies, that’s gonna be that,” said the 57-year-old, defending his son. “He’s the most qualified young man that plays that position that’s built for that, and to be in front of the lights and to continuously shine,” added Deion. This year’s draft is from April 24-26 in Green Bay. So, there is just about a month left to find out who ends up married to who. Until then, happy speculating!
