The number of veteran QBs is dwindling as the days pass. The Rams locked in Matthew Stafford, whom the Raiders wanted. Following that, the Raiders made peace with Geno Smith. After trading Geno, the Seahawks put their faith in Sam Darnold. The Steelers delayed action, and Justin Fields found a home in New York. So now, the Steelers remain without a QB, as Russell Wilson also entered free agency on Wednesday. The Giants, too, have to solve their QB crisis. So, could Russ be heading to the Big Apple after Justin Fields? For now, GM Joe Schoen is making other deals, but reportedly, the team will resolve the QB chaos soon.

Joe Schoen and the Giants managed to get Saints CB Paulson Adebo on the opening day of the legal tampering period. As reported by Adam Schefter, Paulson and the Giants agreed on a three-year deal worth $54 million. On the second day, the Giants got Dolphins safety Jevon Holland, again a three-year deal worth $45.3 million. Jevon’s departure from Miami was something that was most expected. Well, after locking in these two deals, the team is re-signing a deal with veteran Greg Van Roten, as per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Greg was on a one-year, $2M contract with the Giants. In his 12-year career, the 35-year-old has had stints with eight teams. In the 2024 season with the Giants, the Penn alum started every game and played all 1,125 snaps. Joe Schoen and the team re-signing him raised some questions, as Greg is already 35 and fans expected them to upgrade that spot with someone younger, maybe.

Looks like Greg’s 2024 performance was enough for the Giants to rely on him for another season too. Now, the QB spot still has a question mark in front. But maybe that won’t be the case for long because the talk of the town is that Russell Wilson is flying to New York to have a meeting with the Giants.

From Pittsburgh to Manhattan: Is Russ the answer for Joe Schoen?

The Steelers could not have bothered less when Russell Wilson said, “I love it here and everything else, and I think we have a great football team. It didn’t end the way we wanted it to, and I think there’s a lot more to do… I think they’ve known that I’ve always wanted to be here and play here.” The Steelers were more focused on his performance in the last few games that cost them a playoff spot. Russell Wilson had a hot start after he returned from his injury in week 7. It looked like all the hopes the Super Bowl champ gave the Steelers would come true.

But then, in mid-December, the Steelers’ downfall started after Philly beat them 27-13. Russ and Co. could not manage a single win after that loss, and that gave Mike Tomlin‘s team clarity about who they wanted as the QB for next season. Justin Fields’s name was floating in the air all this time until the Jets locked him in on March 10. The Steelers let Russ hit free agency on Wednesday, indirectly telling him that they might not want him anymore.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Russell Wilson be the savior the Giants desperately need, or just another short-term fix?

Have an interesting take?

So now, of course, the quarterback will find another home. Enter the Giants, who are in search of a QB. They have two options for the veteran spot: Aaron Rodgers or Russell. If they consider all the controversy and drama the Jets had to go through with Rodgers this season, Russ would be the better option for them. So, they have invited Russ for a meeting at their facility on Friday, as confirmed by The New York Post.

But there’s a twist in the story: Wilson has a meeting with the Browns as well on Thursday. But one thing is clear, though. Both Wilson and the Steelers seem like they have called it quits now. Then there are rumors that Rodgers might end up with the Steelers after expressing his interest in playing with the Giants. Woah! It’s a full circle. So, now it will be interesting to see where the two Super Bowl champion QBs end up.
