You ever think about what it’s like to step back on the NFL field after years of ups and downs? Like, imagine being in Joe Flacco’s shoes. The guy’s been around forever, right? A Super Bowl MVP once upon a time, and now, at 39, the quarterback is still lacing up. Honestly, many people might have prophesied he’d quietly step away from the gridiron, but here we are.

Well, the Indianapolis Colts are preparing for their last game of the year against the Jets and it’s not clear if the veteran QB will start the game or not. “You can’t take for granted playing football games in this league,” Flacco stated when asked about possibly playing again. “So, anytime you get the opportunity to, you have to put yourself back in your shoes when you were 20 years old, being a college player, wishing to play this game …”

Now, sure, Flacco’s not out there lightning up the scoreboard or scrambling like these younger guys. Of course, you can’t expect a Lamar Jackson from him, right? However, considering Anthony Richardson’s injury and Flacco’s experience, it’s pretty much clear the QB may start tomorrow.

So far, the 39-year-old has started four out of the six games he has played. However, the quarterback had a mixed season, considering his fame is tied to playoff success. Of Course! Ranked at 34, Flacco threw for 1,167 yards with a completion rate of 66.5%, averaging 6.9 yards per attempt, and racked up nine touchdowns.

Not a bad run, but no wonder it’s been a roller-coaster so far for Flacco. Not to forget, the number 15 had also thrown 5 interceptions. That definitely adds some drama to the mix! Now, with tomorrow’s game coming up, it’s all gonna depend on Richardson’s injury status. If he’s good to go, there might be certain questions about him possibly playing again.

Can Joe Flacco's experience lead the Colts to a miracle playoff berth, or is it too late?

As per the head coach, Shane Steichen, the starting QB, Richardson did not practice on Thursday and Friday ahead of the Colts vs Giants showdown. The QB’s been suffering from back and foot issues throughout the season and that put him on questionable for the game tomorrow. When asked of his chances for the game, the HC stated, “We’ll see how next 48 hours go.”

However, the head coach also stated that the QB is still not ruled out of the game. So far, Richardson has missed out four games due to injury and there’s a fifth one of sight considering HC’s statements. Richardson rushed for 70 yards with 9 carries and racking a TD in a win over the Titans last week. However, all this considered, it seems that Joe Flacco might start for the Colts against the Giants.

The Indianapolis team sits at 7-8 by now and as it seems, their playoff chances are pretty slim. However, post their last win over the Titans, the Colts have an 18% chance of securing a playoff berth entering week 17. They just need a miracle right now and, of course, a win in this year’s last and next year’s first game.
