Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow had his 2023 season cut short due to a wrist injury. However, entering his fifth year of NFL journey after multiple injuries in each of those seasons, Burrow is more than determined to prove himself. Even from his recent Instagram post with the caption, “Hunting,” Burrow seems motivated to overcome his shortcomings and help the Bengals in their upcoming season.

However, the Bengals HC Zac Taylor had other plans with the QB while taking a cautious approach before the regular season. He decided not to play Burrow in their last preseason game against the Colts, where the Bengals eventually lost 27-14. But Burrow played for a limited period against the Buccaneers, where he completed 5-0f-7 passes for 51 yards while adding a TD to his name. With the regular season almost on the horizon, Taylor doesn’t want his QB to get injured again by looking back at his history of injuries.
Burrow had a pretty good run last season for the ten games he played after racking up 2,309 yards, 15 TDs and six interceptions. But going into a crucial season with a lot to prove about himself. Burrow would be hoping he can avoid injuries that have plagued his NFL career while helping the Bengals go deep into their playoff run.
Although the Bengals QB is almost suited up to play against the Patriots in Week 1, he recently opened up about the injury struggles he faced while hoping to stay healthy in the longer run.
Joe Burrow opens up on his injuries ahead of a crucial season with the Bengals
Burrow started off his 2023 season by injuring his right calf, which kept on hindering his display on the field. Once he recovered from it, he ended up with torn ligaments on his wrist in a week 11 encounter against the Baltimore Ravens. This injury ended his 2023 NFL season prematurely while the Bengals fumbled in their playoff run against the eventual champions, Kansas City Chiefs.
But after signing a five-year contract extension worth $275 million last year, the expectations from the QB are higher than ever. Speaking with ESPN about the psychological toll of his recurrent injuries, the Bengals QB stated, “Whenever the injuries start to stack up, your football morality kind of comes into the back of your mind. So, that’s definitely something I’ve thought about and something I have had to fight through.”
Although the Pro Bowler had injuries to deal with for the majority of his NFL career, he continues to maintain a positive outlook about the upcoming season, stating, “I’ll be ready to go by the season.” Burrow even spoke about the past approaches that had a negative effect on his recovery and how he is changing the same. Adding to his thoughts, Burrow expressed, “Whenever you fight through adversity and come out on the other side, it definitely gives you a feeling of invincibility. Obviously, you know that is not the case. So, it’s always a balancing act.”
Amid Burrow’s absence, Jake Browning was given the nod as the starting QB for the Bengals in seven games last season. However, as Burrow announces a hunting season, it might be time for him to showcase his talents and prove his doubters wrong once and for all. As the regular season draws near, we fans can only hope Burrow remains healthy to lead the Bengals from the center.
