The Kelce brothers have set a new standard with their engaging and insightful New Heights podcast. Now, it seems they might have inspired another set of NFL siblings to venture into the podcasting realm. In the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast, former Texans DE JJ Watt spoke about the possibility of starting his own podcast.

And he’s dabbling in other sports as well. His gridiron football career may have come to an end, but he and his wife are also making forays into soccer.

A new Watt family podcast on the horizon?

On the podcast, JJ Watt was asked if he’d be starting his own podcast like Jason and Travis Kelce. But he said that since his brother TJ, who plays LB for the Steelers, is still playing, it might not be a feasible thing to do for him. “I think he’s extremely focused right now, and he really wants to…so like during the season, it’s really hard. Imagine you’re coming off a really big loss against a rival, and then you got to go in on Tuesday and do a podcast about it,” he pondered, highlighting the emotional and professional toll such a commitment could take.

His brother Derrick, who played Fullback for the Steelers, might be retired, but he’s also not very media-savvy. “Derrick’s kind of right in the middle. But uh he’s not as he doesn’t love the media, you know, like he does. He’s not the most…he’s very, very football-like,” JJ Watt explained.

As the Watt brothers contemplate following in the Kelce brothers’ footsteps, the prospect of gaining deeper insights into their lives, on and off the field, through a podcast, is an exciting one for fans. With JJ’s charisma, TJ’s intensity, and Derek’s balanced approach, their podcast could offer a unique blend of humor, candid reflections, and an insider’s view of the NFL.

But JJ is not spending his retirement staying idle. He and his wife recently entered uncharted territory.

Is JJ Watt turning to soccer?

JJ and his wife, Kealia Watt, a star in the world of professional soccer, are venturing into new territory together. Their next challenge? The “TST 7v7” soccer event, as JJ Watt shared during his chat on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. The Burnley soccer club, which the Watts recently joined as minority owners, is set to field both a women’s and a men’s team in this high-stakes tournament, eyeing the grand prize of $1 million.

The TST 7v7 will be a showdown with 48 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams competing in a dynamic seven-on-seven format. When prodded by Pat McAfee about his participation, JJ Watt revealed, “he and his wife Kealia are going to start training today.” Yet, JJ Watt humbly expressed reservations about his soccer skills compared to his wife’s, contemplating a more strategic role as a captain and coach. “I am coaching slash, possibly playing on the men’s team not quite as confident in my own game but, we do have a bunch of Burnley legends and captains playing,” Watt said, ensuring an exciting blend of experience and camaraderie.

JJ Watt’s commitment to Burnley FC extends beyond the pitch. He and Kealia took a significant step in May 2023 by becoming minority owners of the club, a proud member of the Premier League located in Lancashire, England. This new chapter not only highlights their love for the sport but also their dedication to contributing to the soccer community, promising an exhilarating journey ahead.
