Denzel Perryman returned to the Los Angeles Chargers after a couple of seasons and while most of the things were the same, he found a new head coach in Jim Harbaugh. But instead of a formal conversation with the new coach he just met, Perryman decided to approach interacting with Harbaugh with a bit of humor.

Apparently, the Chargers linebacker gets reminded of Will Ferrell when he sees Jim Harbaugh, of course, will all due respect. There’s nothing comedic about playing football, but there’s something about the younger Harbaugh brother’s personality that just cracks Perryman up. Dov Kleiman’s post shows Harbaugh’s first impressions of Perryman.

The LB played 6 seasons with the Chargers before moving on to the rival team, the Las Vegas Raiders and then the Houston Texans. Hence, his return came as a full circle. But the changes that he encountered upon his return were for the good. Seeing this, the media wanted a piece of Perryman’s thoughts about signing with his former team.

Perryman, though spending brief moments with Jim Harbaugh, couldn’t help but find an element of “funny” in the coach’s personality. The LB highlighted Harbaugh’s Chargers career and emphasized many times that he “loved him [Harbaugh].”

“My first impressions of Harbaugh – like I don’t want to get in trouble for this – but he reminds me of Will Ferrell,” said the LB and added, “The way that he talks. His analogies and everything, but they really remind me of Will Ferrell. It’s just funny to me. It’s funny, but I know he means well.”

Though the 31-year-old couldn’t point out a specific character played by the $160 million actor, the Pro Bowler insisted that “He [Harbaugh] just gives a Will Ferrell vibe.” But that’s not the only thing that Perryman took with a sense of humor.

Perryman’s veteran presence is a boon for the Chargers

Right now, the 31-year-old is the most experienced player in the Chargers linebacker department. Yet he is still humble and doesn’t want to disturb the equilibrium of the team. The reporters asked him about the role he was going to fill when the LB took the podium at the Hoag Performance Center.

It seems like he doesn’t have a specific plan in mind and is relying on the team’s input to make himself the best fit possible. “Whatever they want me to do,” he said. “I’ll be a placekicker if they ask me.” His answers genuinely had the media rolling with laughter. Now, Perryman is set to join the Chargers’ extensive linebacker room that boasts Daiyan Henley, Junior Colson, and Nick Niemann who is in his 4 year with the Los Angeles team.

An interesting thing to note here is that Perryman agreed on a #6 jersey, forsaking his #52 signature as a sign of respect for Khalil Mack. Most of all, Perryman is excited to be back to square one but trusts the coach to make it a familiar habitat for him once again after agreeing to a one-year $3 million deal with his former team.
