The Chiefs are nowhere near the team they were expected to be this season. The reigning Super Bowl Champions are barely winning games every week. Although they are 11-1 with a guaranteed playoff spot, the Chiefs’ record on the offense wouldn’t bring smiles to the faces in Kansas City. But wait, there could be a major flaw in the Chargers’ defense, which the Chiefs might exploit if things go their way on Sunday Night.
Well, KC Sports Network and Sports Reporter Hayley Lewis broke it down so that we could understand the dynamics of the Chiefs game. As per their report, the Chiefs are the No.1 3rd down team on the offense. However, the Chargers are the second best at stopping 3rd downs, which could be major problems for the Chiefs. And that’s not the only position they are dominating this season. Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers are also second in stopping red zone trips.
This could be a huge headache for Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs, who rank 24th in their red-zone efficiency this season. Over the past 2 games, the Chiefs have only managed to score 3 TDs out of their 10 red zone trips. Out of all those disappointing stats, the Chiefs have only one flaw to work on. But for that, they need their QB and TE to play their best games yet. As revealed by KC Sports Network, the Chargers defense gives up the most yards per carry in the NFL.

So Travis Kelce has the perfect chance to step up on Sunday Night. But considering the way he has performed all season, should the Chiefs Kingdom get their hopes up? After playing 12 games this season, Kelce has 75 receptions for 637 yards to his name. However, the problem lies elsewhere; the Chiefs TE has only scored 2 TDs until now. And last season, at this point, he already had 5 TDs alongside 813 receiving yards.
Kelce even opened up about his frustration for not helping the Chiefs enough with his connection with Patrick Mahomes.

Travis Kelce voicing his frustration ahead of the Chargers clash
Catching up with former Eagles center Jason Kelce on their New Heights Podcast, Kelce didn’t mince his words, talking about his lack of flair with Mahomes this year. “Where I take a lot of pride is once we get in that red zone, man. I get a little hungrier. Right now, for whatever reason, this year. I just can’t find my way in the end zone. I’m just not on the same page as Pat. It can get frustrating.” Those frustrations don’t seem to leave Kelce, as he was shut down yet again last week.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce reignite their magic, or are the Chiefs' glory days fading?
Have an interesting take?
Facing off against the worst team in the NFL, the Raiders, Kelce only managed 7 catches for 68 yards. Him not scoring a TD against Las Vegas meant Kelce hadn’t scored one in his last 3 games.
But hold on, Kelce’s record against the Chargers isn’t bad, considering the season he is having. Over the last 6 years, the Chiefs TE averages 91 yards per game against The Bolts. His seven catches for 89 yards in week 4’s match-up still remain the third-best game Kelce had this season. As for the Chargers, they would be missing safety Derwin James Jr., linebacker Joey Bosa, tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater.
