Jim Harbaugh, the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, has said some amazing things about his quarterback, Justin Herbert recently. Jim’s arrival in the Chargers from Michigan is a big change as he brought strength coach Ben Herbert with him.
Last season, the Chargers did not do well. They ended with a 5-12 record, and Herbert had his worst stats in terms of completion percentage and passing yards per game. This made some people doubt if Justin is as good as many believe. After Herbert did a fitness test, Harbaugh’s praise for Herbert shows that his confidence in Justin.

Jim said, “The conditioning test was another eye opener…he smashed the conditioning test last Thursday. I mean crushed it. Out in front of people trying to keep up with him. The athleticism and strength here? He could play tight end. He could play edge rusher here. The arm talent is even better than advertised.” Harbaugh’s statements reflect his belief in Herbert’s capability to play other tough positions on the football field, not just quarterback.

The chance to work with Herbert was a big reason Jim decided to take the job with the Chargers. He previously also praised him for his skills and character. Harbaugh was especially impressed by Herbert’s humility and talent. “He’s gonna get mad at me because he’s got a lot of humility for someone that’s so incredible,“ Harbaugh told Sports Central LA.

Jim Harbaugh on Ben Herbert’s impact
Jim said, “Ben Herbert is huge in this Phase One. When I say baseline training, I mean finding out where everybody is, where their baseline is, and where they need improvement. Herb is here to engage with everyone. One thing about Herb is you know he’s going to be there every day and ready to train anyone who shows up.” Harbaugh also mentioned that Ben blends advanced scientific techniques with traditional strength and conditioning discipline like no one else.

Jim explained that he and Ben Herbert have been working together for nearly six years and share the same philosophy of doing everything possible for the players. Their focus is to improve the players’ football skills and help them become the best version of themselves, both on and off the field. They aim to enhance the players’ strength, agility, flexibility, and overall fitness by combining training methods to increase muscle mass and reduce fat. Their ultimate goal is to make the team better at football.
Therefore, with Herbert’s innovative methods and Harbaugh’s leadership, the team aims to be healthier and more competitive. The offseason program is just the beginning, but it sets the tone for what’s coming.
