The 2024 NFL season had much going on. The Chiefs pursuing a three-peat, the Lions’ standout offense, and the Eagles seeking redemption, were among the major talking points of this season. Amongst all this though, the Chargers quietly carried on with their efforts. At one point, the question had to be asked: Was there a glimmer of hope for them? The Chargers finished the season by winning their last three games, suggesting a rising momentum. And many believed it could finally be the year they establish themselves among the league’s elite.

Well, unfortunately, that didn’t happen as their playoff journey ended abruptly as the Texans outmatched them in the Wild Card game. Since that setback, discussions have surged about how Jim Harbaugh and his team will prepare for the 2025 season. Well, the coach has mentioned he wants to make them “Chargers 2.0” and amidst all this strategic planning, there’s now some positive news for the Chargers.

Recently Alex Insdorf took to X to share the Chargers cap space. He wrote, “OverTheCap has bumped their current cap projection from $272.5 million to $279.5 million in light of today’s news from the league. There’s no final number from the league yet, to be clear. But that increase takes the Chargers from $63.4 million in cap space to $70.4 million.”

Well, that’s certainly good news for the Chargers, Harbaugh needs to make some changes to the team. He will be looking to strengthen the squad, and that extra $7 million cap will certainly help in getting in some fresh blood to the team. Now though, it seems like it’s not just this $7 million that might open up for the Chargers. If recent reports are to be believed, the Chargers are looking to cut Joey Bosa from their squad.

Well, Bosa’s time with the Chargers has been interesting. The player has shown great promise at times, but injuries have stopped him from reaching his true potential. Unfortunately, though, it seems like his time with the team is coming to an end. Bosa has one of the highest caps amongst the Chargers squad, and even though he took almost a $7 million cut in salary before the 2024 season, his injuries and inconsistent performances mean that the Chargers are looking to move on.

The 29-year-old ended up playing 14 games for the Chargers this season, and while he was consistent throughout the season, there was no standup performance by him. He ended up recording 22 tackles and 5 sacks, laying 13 hits on opposing quarterbacks. Well, looking at this performance and seeing how Bosa is set to collect a $12.5 million roster bonus next month, it doesn’t quite seem like the Chargers will move ahead with him.

The Linebacker is on a $13 million salary, and well considering all things (his performance, and bonus situation) it most likely is the end of his Chargers journey.

Is cutting Joey Bosa the right move for the Chargers, or a huge mistake waiting to happen?

The Chargers will go International

Well, while it is yet to be seen how the Chargers squad shape up, one thing has now been confirmed. The Chargers will be going to Brazil. After a successful first game in Brazil in 2024, the NFL will return to Sao Paulo in September. The Chargers will play as the host team on the 2nd day of the season, with their opposition yet to be determined. The news was confirmed by NFL on X, they wrote, “NFL BACK TO BRAZIL IN 2025. 🏈🇧🇷 Justin Herbert and the Chargers will bring the football storm to Arena Corinthians in September!”

It was the Eagles who played as the home team at the Corinthians Arena last season and, well, we all know how their season ended. Maybe, Sao Paulo, this time around, is lucky for the Chargers, and who knows they might just end up mirroring the Eagles’ success from last season. The Eagles faced the Packers in their first game of the last season.

The 2024 champions showed their grit and determination in that match, eventually winning 34-29. Hurts was amazing in that game, running for 278 yards with 2 touchdowns. This was the start of the Eagles championship campaign and maybe getting a victory here, sets the Chargers on the same course. Well, we will have to wait and see.

The Chargers are entering a pivotal offseason, with significant financial flexibility and tough roster decisions ahead. It looks like, Harbaugh’s vision for “Chargers 2.0” is taking shape, and the extra cap space, along with potential moves like parting ways with Joey Bosa, could help reshape the team into a true contender. Well, the question is will those changes happen?
