The Week 12 game brought some devastating outcomes for Jim Harbaugh’s team, the Los Angeles Chargers. The coach’s team failed to take revenge on John Harbaugh’s team, the Ravens, 11 years after Jim lost the Super Bowl XLVII to his older brother. The Chargers lost to the Ravens 30-23. But that’s not just the end of the story!
Probably, it’s a beginning for the Chargers as well as J.K. Dobbins. On Monday night Harbaugh Bowl, Dobbins was enjoying a strong start in the game against his former team. However, later in the first half, an unfortunate incident stopped the game. The running back was seen having his knee injured, and eventually, the team ruled him out for the game.
That’s the only thing the team decided to announce at that time. Hence, the reports threw the questionable status of J.K. Dobbins to coach Jim Harbaugh. But nothing came out of him as well. According to NFL reporter Grant Gordon on X, “Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh has no update on JK Dobbins’ knee injury.”

Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh has no update on JK Dobbins’ knee injury
— Grant Gordon (@TCNGrantGordon) November 26, 2024
Officially, the HC said, “I don’t have any update.” So, this means, the team has yet to make an announcement on his injury status. But as of now, it seems they are waiting for further updates from the medical team.
In this game, he had 40 yards in six carriers before being out of the game due to injury. So, in total, J.K. Dobbins has played in 12 games this season and has a lengthy injury history to his name. For instance, he just played nine games from 2021 to 2023. Earlier, he was drafted by the Ravens in 2020, but as he missed most of the two seasons due to injuries, the team released him.
As per his long injury history, the running back has also dealt with issues such as a torn ACL and an Achilles injury. So, now that he might be out, at least for some games, Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers will have to rely on his backup.
Whom will Jim Harbaugh pick to replace J.K. Dobbins?
Till now, no update has been revealed by Jim Harbaugh and the team on J.K. Dobbins. But as per reports of ESPN’s Laura Rutledge, via CBS Sports, “Dobbins came out at halftime wearing a brace on his injured knee before returning to the locker room….Dobbins was seen on the sideline having his knee taped up. He tried to loosen up and run before heading to the locker room to be further evaluated by Los Angeles’ medical staff.” So, as his comeback is under suspicion, the question is who is Harbaugh’s next player?

It’s no doubt that J.K. Dobbins’s injury has left the Chargers in a tough spot. So, all eyes have now turned to backup Gus Edwards, who’s been sharing carries with Dobbins all season. Monday night, he matched Dobbins’s workload with six first-half carries, proving his reliability. But what happens next? Third-string Hassan Haskins might see a bigger role, especially near the goal line. And there’s rookie Kimani Vidal, waiting for his chance as well. Though inactive on Monday, he could step up if Dobbins is out for weeks.
So, it’s a big question mark for the Chargers’ roster now, especially after this loss to the Ravens. Can they hold it together without their star?
