Do you know one special thing about the Los Angeles Chargers, especially after coach Jim Harbaugh has arrived? Yeah, the locker room having faith is one thing, but the major highlight here is that they never play blame games, at least for now. The Chargers are out of the second playoff game, but unlike some teams like the Patriots, the coach never threw his players under the bus. And that’s what is special about Harbaugh and his company.
We already know that the Chargers lost to the Texans 32-12. And now that the team is out of the Super Bowl run, coach Jim Harbaugh has promised to come better in the next season. However, the interesting point is that the 61-year-old is never angry with his players, especially with the quarterback, Justin Herbert. This is evident in what he said in a recent press conference.
On Wednesday, as shared by reporter Alex Insdorf on X, Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh appeared in front of the media to talk about multiple things, including QB Justin Herbert. During this, he also gave his quarterback a nickname, after calling him a “beast.” He said that Herbert is “the opposite of a house plant. I mean, he is field corn. Just like field corn, it doesn’t need to be talked to in a certain way. It doesn’t need the conditions to be perfect. Sunlight, shade, water content, soil content. Field corn will burrow down for any energy that it can find and it will rise up and start producing. I mean, that’s Justin Herbert.”

Wow! That’s indeed too much faith in his quarterback from the coach. And why shouldn’t it be?
When we see the stats of 2024, Herbert is on the ninth rank in terms of yardage (3,870), and 12th in terms of touchdowns (23). In addition, Jim Harbaugh spent 14 years in the NFL, but Herbert’s passing ability (101.7) impressed him the most. Even the quarterback’s arm talent is at the top of his list. Hence, you now know why Harbaugh admires Herbert so much.
Well, it’s good to admire and praise the quarterback on your team, but we cannot neglect his latest poor performance against the Texans on Saturday, January 11.
Jim Harbaugh backed up Justin Herbert even after his poor stats?
In the wildcard loss against Houston, the Chargers’s quarterback, Justin Herbert, showed his arguably poor game with four interceptions. In addition, he also took multiple substandard decisions, such as when just 11:39 was left in the second quarter and his team was leading 6-0, Herbert rolled to the right side near the end zone. And guess what? His next throw was towards wide receiver Quentin Johnston, who was on the left at that play. This resulted in his interception.

Hence, all these poor plays by the quarterback fumed the Chargers fans, but not Jim Harbaugh. In a press conference, the HC said, “We did him a disservice and didn’t put him in the positions to be successful….But he played like a beast.” Harbaugh backed his quarterback by taking all the blame on himself when many were against Herbert.
Nevertheless, now that the season is over for them, the Chargers aim to come back stronger!
