The New York Jets are at a major crossroads, with Aaron Rodgers‘ future hanging in the balance. Will they stick with the veteran QB or go in a new direction? Led by head coach Aaron Glenn, the team is ready to make bold moves—starting with roster evaluations and possibly a game-changing draft pick. The decisions they make could set the course for the next chapter.
On Pat McAfee’s show, a video was shown in which Glenn gave some interesting insight into the Jets’ approach for the upcoming season. Glenn made it clear that it’s not just about only Rodgers. “This thing is not about Aaron Rodgers folks. This about the roster plan,” Glenn said. “We are planning on building the best roster that we can.” His message is pretty simple: it’s about building a better team all-around, whether that means upgrading key positions like guard, tackle, or defensive tackle. Everyone’s getting evaluated, so the team’s looking at all angles—not just Rodgers.

Pat McAfee and Dan Orlovsky also dove into the QB situation, which is obviously still a big question mark. Orlovsky made a strong point. If there’s a top quarterback prospect available in the draft, the Jets should go for it. “I would highly encourage the Jets to take them,” Orlovsky said. “You’re in a division with Josh [Allen], obviously Buffalo juggernaut, Tua, and Mike McDaniel… you really have to find a quarterback early.” The competition in the AFC East is no joke. So the Jets can’t afford to skip a chance to grab a future QB, even if Rodgers sticks around for another season or two.
McAfee brought up another interesting angle—the idea of Aaron Rodgers mentoring a younger QB if he comes back. He hinted that while Rodgers hasn’t decided yet, he could be the kind of leader the Jets need. “Aaron Glenn might be the right guy to restore some… New York Jets toughness,” McAfee said, noting Glenn’s deep roots with the team. If Rodgers decides to come back, he might not just be playing; he could be mentoring a younger QB, helping set the tone for the future. It’s a move that could be key in the Jets’ long-term rebuild.
McAfee also reflected on Rodgers’ time with Jordan Love in Green Bay, where Rodgers put his ego aside to help the young QB grow. “He put his pride to the side,” McAfee said. That kind of leadership could work wonders for the Jets, especially if they bring in a new QB to learn from Rodgers. The Jets could use all the veteran wisdom Rodgers has to offer if he decides to come back.

Orlovsky also echoed the idea that, even with Aaron Rodgers back for another year, the Jets can’t wait too long to find a long-term solution at QB. “Find a quarterback early that you believe has the talent to be a winning guy,” Orlovsky said. The Jets need to be ready for the future. So even if Rodgers sticks around, they need to start looking for a successor.
Whether Rodgers comes back or not, the Jets are at a major crossroads in their rebuild. Glenn’s out here looking at the whole roster, and the draft could be the move that flips everything. It’s not just about Rodgers anymore—it’s about building a squad that can go head-to-head with the top dogs in the AFC East. The Jets’ next move? Lowkey could be a game-changer.
Shaping the Jets’ future with or without Rodgers
Aaron Glenn’s keeping it real about Aaron Rodgers’ future—things are still up in the air, but they’re talking. Glenn said they’ve already hit up Rodgers and are making roster decisions based on that convo. “We’ve already had that communication with Aaron Rodgers, and as we continue to look at the roster, we’ll make decisions accordingly,” he said. They’re not rushing into anything, though. “We’re going to make sure we get the right answer and we’re not going to rush through this,” Glenn added, so no pressure.
Glenn’s also making it clear: no one’s safe. Everyone’s getting evaluated, and they’re thinking big picture. “Mooch is going to sit and talk and just go over the whole roster,” he said. They’re not about quick fixes; they’re in it for the long haul. “We’re going to make sure we get the right answer and we’re not going to rush through this,” Glenn repeated because they’re not here for shortcuts.

He also dropped a warning for the players: “Put your seat belts on and get ready for the ride.” Glenn’s ready for the challenges, and he’s got no doubt they’ll bring some opportunities too. “We’re the freaking New York Jets, so we’re built for this s—,” he said, straight flexing.

Adam Schefter also popped in with some insight. Saying Aaron Rodgers has to make the call on whether he’s playing next season. Once he decides, Glenn and Rodgers will sit down and figure it out. “They’re going to be speaking at some point in time,” Schefter said. “I think Aaron has to decide first and foremost whether he wants to play and then he and Aaron Glenn will discuss it and they can figure out what is best for both sides.” So, now it’s a test of patience and let’s see what happens.
