In the ever-evolving saga of NFL offseason drama, the Jets are once again at the center of the rumor mill. No, it’s not about Aaron Rodgers. But still, it’s related to Rodgers. Picture this: after parting ways with A-Rod, Aaron Glenn and the Jets are now reportedly shopping their star wide receiver, Davante Adams, to free up some much-needed salary cap space.
With that being said, the Jets’ wide receiver room is kinda looking thin as of now. As the NFL draft is approaching, the Jets have the 7th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. But nope, they’re certainly not going to draft a WR considering their QB slot is still vacant. That means Glenn and his crew are probably going to pick a WR from the free agency. Any suggestions? It’s possibly from Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers.
After his rookie contract is over, Josh Palmer is now hitting the free agency. According to Zack Rosenblatt, the senior writer at The Athletic who covers the Jets, the New York team can sign Palmer in 2025. “Palmer is only 25, averaged 15 yards a catch the last two years, probably hasn’t reached his ceiling yet, shouldn’t be too expensive,” Rosenblatt wrote on his official ‘X’ handle. “This is the kind of free agent the Jets should be looking at this offseason (young, talented, room to grow, relatively inexpensive)—and they’ll badly need WRs once they move off Davante Adams.”

Chargers drafted Palmer in the third round with 77th overall back in the 2021 NFL draft. The 25-year-old WR had a couple of standout seasons in the last two seasons for the Chargers. He started six out of ten games that he played in his third season and racked up 38 receptions for 581 yards and two touchdowns.
As for his last season of the rookie contract, the guy had a similar performance as he caught 39 receptions for 584 yards and one touchdown. Fast forward to now, Palmer is all set to enter the free agency market where he’ll have pretty much options to find new teams. And of course, Jets could be the one considering they’re expected to part ways with Devante Adams.
Now here’s the deal: PFF predicts that Palmer will get a two-year $13 million deal in free agency. That said, considering Aaron Glenn’s Jets don’t have that hefty salary cap space, signing Palmer for a two-year $13 million deal is arguably the best option for them. If the Jets sign him, he’s basically the perfect sidekick to Garrett Wilson’s superhero act.
Wilson’s the flashy, ankle-breaking playmaker, and Palmer’s the big, reliable target who does the dirty work. And the defense? Well, you can just say they gotta choose—double Wilson and let Palmer feast or play it safe and risk Wilson torching them deep. Either way, it’s gonna be a problem. As for Devante Adams, he’s probably thinking about which team he’s going to play in 2025.

Is Devante Adams going to the Chiefs?
If we talk about the Kansas City Chiefs‘ O-line this season, it’s clear that they took a step back compared to their past few seasons. For starters, the team had suffered crucial injuries at the initial phase of the regular season. Second, Patrick Mahomes tallied just 3,928 yards, his lowest since taking over as the starting QB. That said, the team’s in a dire need of an explosive pass catcher.
Recently, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport stated that Aaron Glenn and the Jets are getting calls about Devante Adams. On top of that, TWSN’s Marissa Myers speculated that the Chiefs could be a potential landing spot for Adams. The reason’s pretty obvious, the team needs a veteran WR and someone who can support their young receiving corp.

Now, Adams is a six-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, and coming with a standout season. The 32-year-old racked up over 1,000 yards across the Raiders and the Jets and even racked up 8 touchdowns. However, his contract can play a crucial role in this deal. You see, the Raiders signed him on a whopping $140M contract back in 2022.

Now, he’s entering his fourth year of the contract with a base salary of $35.6M and a cap hit of $38.34M in 2025. Now, that’s where things get pretty interesting. You see, the Chiefs currently have $16.4M over the salary cap. That means to absorb Adams’s contract, the Chiefs will need to clear a hefty cap space. Long story short: it’s unlikely the Chiefs will trade for Adams.
