The Jets went all-in on Aaron Rodgers like a high-stakes poker game—pushing their chips to the center, betting on a superstar. But instead of a jackpot, they got the sports version of a glitchy streaming service—big hype, then buffering… buffering… gone. One moment, Rodgers was the face of a new era, and the next, he was just a headline in a whirlwind of drama. And now?
Oh, y’all are probably aware of what’s happening in the free agency with Rodgers and the Steelers after the Jets released him. The kicker? Well, recently, the Jets’ owner Woody Johnson revealed that it was the head coach, Aaron Glenn, and the general manager Darren Mougey who made the decision to expel Rodgers.
“The experiment was a good experiment, it just didn’t work out. I have a lot of respect for Aaron Rodgers, and I’m sorry it didn’t work out, but we had to make a choice. And I think we made the right choice,” Johnson said. Well, considering the last couple of seasons for Rodgers in New York, we all saw that decision coming. And honestly, it wasn’t a hard decision.

I mean, when the Jets signed him on a three-year deal, you couldn’t scroll for five seconds without seeing Rodgers‘ name. Some suggested that move echoed the career path of his predecessor Brett Favre, while others believed that Rodgers would end their Super Bowl drought. But nope, Rodgers just inked his name as the latest victim of the Jets’ QB curse.
It started with his left angle injury on just his fourth offensive snap, which turned out to be an Achilles tendon rupture. And just like that, Rodgers’ year 1 in New York washed away. His second season? Brutal. The man returned to the gridiron, hoping to flip the scripts. But instead, he got a reality check and wrapped up his 2024 season with 5-12. The result?
Well, after already parting ways with their head coach and general manager, the Jets decided to move in different directions with Rodgers as well. It was clear that the new regime wanted a fresh-start and it would be best for them to part ways with Rodgers. After the Super Bowl weekend, Rodgers went to New York and met with Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, and was informed that the Jets’ are moving ahead without him.
But let’s not kid ourselves—even before Glenn and Mougey decided to move on from Rodgers, Woody Johnson left that decision for the HC and the GM, right? “I’m going to leave that to them (Glenn and Mougey). They got to take a look at how the team’s composed and what they think they need and pull all that together,” he had said.

Fast forward to now and after releasing the four-time MVP, the Jets are set to start their 2025 campaign with Justin Fields.
Justin Fields is going to be a winner for the Jets?
Justin Fields’ last season was anything but smooth. The guy gave a thrilling start to the Steelers after signing a one-year deal (because of Russell Wilson’s injury). However, by the time the Steelers wrapped up their 2024 season after the wild card round loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Fields was warming bench waiting for an opportunity. But that didn’t come.

At one point, it seemed like the Steelers were going to re-sign Fields as their QB1. Courtesy? Those 5 game losing streak under Wilson’s reins. Cut to the reality and Fields decided to explore a better opportunity in the free agency market and snagged a two-year $40 million deal. Sure, Fields isn’t the four-time MVP and doesn’t have the background of 10 Pro Bowler.
But Woody Johnson believes that Fields is going to be a winner for the Jets. “I think Justin Fields is going to be a total winner for us. I’ve been impressed with him since his college days,” he said. On top of that, Johnson admitted that with the help of this coaching staff, Fields has a potential to develop into a two-way weapon.
“Justin, I think is going to be really good,” Johnson said. “I saw him in college, I thought he was very enticing being in that class with some good quarterbacks. He’s a dual-threat which we haven’t had with the Jets for quite some time. With the coaching staff he has now, I think he’s gonna have a chance to really blossom — so I’m encouraged.” Fields is coming after a notable season with his brief stint in Pittsburgh.

The guy started first six games for the Steelers with a track record of 4-2 before Russell Wilson took over. Now that he signed a two-year deal with the Jets, the general manager already named him QB1 for the 2025 season on Sunday.
