In week 9, the New York Jets faced a humiliating 6-27 defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers, bringing their record to 4-4 in the league and their never-ending struggle continues. The Jets’ offense, once again, proved to be their biggest weakness, hitting another low against the Chargers.

In the absence of Aaron Rodgers, the Jets had placed Zach Wilson in his position. However, the lack of a backup option for Rodgers seems to cost Jets a lot, as Wilson continued to struggle to make an impact in the game. In this game, Chargers sacked him eight times. Despite this, the Jets’ head coach, Robert Saleh, continues to back the struggling quarterback.

Against the Chargers, Wilson’s record was 33 of 49 for 263 yards. However, he made several mistakes, leading to a disappointing performance, including losing two fumbles. Additionally, he struggled to advance the ball into the end zone. Despite this, Wilson can rely on strong support from Saleh, who has been defending him throughout the season. In his post-game remark, Saleh said, “Was it his best? No. His worst? Not even close.

On the defeat against the Chargers, Jets’ head coach said, “It was a lot of self-inflicted wounds.” Saleh refuses to put blame on any individual player, stating, “It’s everyone.” The head coach believes that the team as a whole is the issue. Reflecting on the team’s performance, he said, “It felt like anytime we got momentum going, we just shot ourselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. It’s not good enough.” However, it is crucial for Saleh to make some significant changes within the team if they are to have any hopes of making it to the playoffs.

How the Jets performed against the Chargers

From the first quarter, it was evident that the Jets were heading for a defeat. Whenever they attempted a comeback, penalties, drops, or fumbles nullified their efforts. They had a total of eight penalties during the game and managed to convert only 3 of 15 third-down opportunities.

When it comes to touchdowns, they are lagging significantly behind other teams. The Jets have only scored eight offensive touchdowns this season, and in the last four games, they managed only three. They currently rank 31st in offensive points per game, averaging a mere 14.4 points.

Their only silver lining remains their defense, which previously halted players like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts, allowing only 3 touchdowns and eight interceptions combined. Their offense must match the level of their defense, or there is no way they can emerge from this struggling phase.
