The Jets have been stuck in a constant state of rebuilding for what feels like an eternity, and as if the 2024 season wasn’t bad enough, now they’re facing another round of disappointment in their search for a new head coach. But just when it seemed like all hope was lost, one familiar face from the past decided to throw his hat into the ring, offering more than just a glimmer of hope. Victor Green, a Jets legend who spent 9 years with the team, is hinting at a potential reunion—this time, not as a player, but as someone who could step in and help turn this thing around.

When the hour of need arrives, you can only trust those who’ve been there for you before. And that’s where New York stands at the moment. Jets legend Victor Green, who served the team for 9 seasons, made his feelings clear in a recent X post. The caption read, “Could we possibly team up one more time? Two of the Jets’ all-time greats.” With the new buzz surrounding Aaron Glenn as a potential coach, Green couldn’t contain his excitement about getting back on the field once again.

You see, Victor and Glenn have a history. During a podcast, Flight Deck, Green had said, “They should go out there and get Glenn; he should be their top priority.” He also mentioned that Aaron was a first-round draft pick and a Pro Bowl player. You look at other coordinators and what they’ve done; they haven’t done it as well as Aaron Glenn is doing it right now,” he added. Victor’s words speak volumes, as he personally played under legendary coaches like Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick. The man knows what he’s talking about. His potential comeback would mean a reunion of two Jets legends.

With Rodgers’ future up in the air and the Jets’ budget tighter than a jar lid, adding Glenn as a coach could be the shake-up they need. His reputation for turning Detroit’s defense into a powerhouse is impressive, but let’s be real—the Jets’ $345K carryover cap (dead last in the NFL) is a big hurdle. Green is hyping Glenn as a perfect fit, sure. But unless the team can juggle Rodgers’ hefty contract, it’s all talk. However, if Rodgers does stay, imagine what a brilliant pair-up the two Aaron’s could be.

Is Aaron Glenn the missing piece of the puzzle for the Jets?

Aaron Glenn, the Lions’ defensive coordinator, had an outstanding NFL career. Especially with the Jets from 1994-2001. He was a first-round pick in 1994, played 121 games, and recorded 24 interceptions. Aaron was a Pro Bowler in ‘97 & ‘98. Glenn is the only player in Jets history with two 100-yard plays, including a 100-yard interception against the Dolphins in ‘96. He was a menace alongside another defensive standout, Victor Green. Plus, he has played over 100 games for the Jets with Green.

Can Victor Green and Aaron Glenn really be the saviors the Jets desperately need right now?

Have an interesting take?

Aaron Glenn’s ability to develop talent and execute a game plan has been proven with the Detroit Lions. So when Green talks, the team might benefit from listening to him. In fact, the legend recently saw a video of Glenn talking about the bond between coaches and players off the field, and it really struck a chord with him. The way Glenn made his players feel like part of a family? That was the game-changer. Green couldn’t help but share the video on X, saying, “This guy needs to be our coach. He’s the real deal. Most coaches don’t think like this—I know from experience.” And if that wasn’t enough, he upped the ante by adding, “Hire him. I’ll even come out of retirement for this.” I mean, you heard him, New York!

Glenn has been doing an impressive job with the Lions’ defense this season. The team has allowed an average of 20.1 points per game, ranking 7th in the league, which is a huge step up. While their third-down defense hasn’t been perfect, they’ve still held opponents to a 47.6% conversion rate, showing they can step up when it matters most. So, needless to say, if he comes to the Jets, it could be their final hope to end the massive playoff drought next season.
