The New York Jets and drama? Name a more iconic duo. Seriously, if last season was a TV show, it’d be somewhere between Succession and Curb Your Enthusiasm—high stakes, awkward moments, and a whole lot of “Did that really just happen?” From Super Bowl dreams to a four-play nightmare, Aaron Rodgers’ arrival in New York was supposed to change everything. But nope, reality hit hard. And now?

It’s time for Rodgers to leave New York, as the franchise wants to go in a different direction with the QB position. Now that the NFL Combine is here, the team’s surely looking for Rodgers’ replacement. But hold on—that doesn’t mean Rodgers’ is out of the headlines. The Jets’ general manager, Darren Mougey, is at the combine, and he straight-up cleared his feelings for the veteran QB.

ESPN NFL Nation reporter Rich Cimini, who covers the Jets, recently hopped on to his official ‘X’ handle and wrote, “Mougey says he won’t discuss any private convos with Rodgers. (He) Claims there was no “ultimatum” made to Rodgers.” Besides, he also mentioned Mougey’s statement on why they parted ways, “Best thing for the Jets was to go in a different direction,” he concluded.

Earlier this month, the GM and the head coach, Aaron Glenn, confirmed that the franchise is moving on from the 41-year-old QB. Last week we met with Aaron and shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback,” Mougey and Glenn said in a statement released by the Jets. Since then, there’s been speculations around his future with the Jets.

In simple terms, it feels like the last season of Friends—some believe Rodgers already knew the Jets were saying, “We were on a break,” while others think he was still trying to convince them they belonged together. But at the end of the day, the four-time MVP is looking for a new team. The catch? He isn’t getting one. Yeah, read that again! Of course, it sounds a bit awkward for Rodgers being unable to find a new team. But it’s the cold truth.

Recently, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini stated on the latest episode of her Scoop City podcast that she’s “trying to find some interested teams that would want to bring Rodgers in, and I don’t think he has a very robust market.” She further added, There’s no one team that I’m hearing that is in the market locked in on Rodgers.” Diabolical!

If we break down the reasons, sadly, we’re gonna find the same couple of them. For starters, it’s his Achilles injury from the first season with the Jets. On top of that, no one can ignore his underwhelming performance for the Jets. The brutal 5-12 memories are still fresh. All in all, Aaron Rodgers’ future (not just with the Jets but in the NFL) is still hanging by a thread.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Rodgers' exit the best move for the Jets, or a colossal mistake in the making?

Have an interesting take?

As for the Jets, they’re certainly done with Rodgers. Now, it’s time to make a decision for Davante Adams.

After all, we’re also looking at where Davante Adams will land

“I came here with the hopes that I wouldn’t have to find a new home, so it’s kind of bittersweet, I guess.” That’s what Devante Adams said after the 2024 season wrap-up. The veteran wide receiver signed a hefty five-year contract worth $140M with the Raiders back in 2022. Fast forward to the 2024 season, and the Las Vegas team decided to trade Adams to the Jets. That’s the story of the Rodgers-Adams reunion.

However, the duo didn’t get a fairytale ending. Now that Rodgers is all set to leave the Jets, the buzz is that Adams is gonna leave the team, too.  But it looks like the general manager has different plans for the 32-year-old wide receiver. On Tuesday, Mougey gave an update on the WR’s future with the team.

“Davante is on the team right now. We have a plan there. In the next few weeks, we’ll address that issue.” Huh! That’s The Prestige-level plot twist, if we’re being real. But that’s it, folks. Two of the biggest news from New York are now confirmed. Rodgers is leaving, and Adams is probably staying.

The wideout played just 11 games with the Jets, posting 67 catches, 857 yards and seven touchdowns. When the Jets released the official statement about parting ways with Rodgers, one thing seemed pretty certain—that Adams would leave the Jets, too. Nah, scratch that. The duo looked to be a package deal moving forward. Now, here we are.

If the team decides to release Adams before June 1, they’re gonna save $29.9 million in cap space. But nope, looks like the franchise had other plans. Anyway, as the GM himself says, they’re gonna address the issue in a few weeks. Let’s see how the situation turns out for Adams as well as for the Jets.
