Will the Jets get some draft capital after trading Breece Hall? Probably not. But amid Jets running back Breece Hall’s trade rumor, his future with the team is questionable. According to the Pro Football Network’s latest report, “New Jets general manager Darren Mougey is a wild card in how the team might handle the Hall negotiations.”
Clearly, after the Jets signed rookie running backs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis last season, Breece Hall’s future with the team has been in doubt as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. But, surprisingly, GM Darren Mougey, whom the Jets hired as their GM on January 25, 2025, put the Breece Hall rumors to rest.
As per The Athletic’s senior reporter Zack Rosenblatt’s Twitter post, Darren, 40, made his stance clear on the former Iowa State Cyclones player Hall’s trade. “Darren Mougey on Breece Hall rumors: “I haven’t had any talks with any teams about Breece Hall. He’s on the team,”” Rosenblatt mentioned in his post caption.

With his remark, it is clear that the Gang Green has not taken any steps to trade their RB Hall yet. But this came just after, NFL insider Josina Anderson acknowledged the potential availability of the Jets RB. Recently, on 24th April, taking to her official X handle, Anderson stated, referencing a league source that Hall might be available “within the last week and a half.” “Notebook: League source tells me they’ve heard about the potential* availability of #Jets RB Breece Hall “within the last week and a half,” she mentioned.
Not only Anderson but also several other NFL analysts, experts, and players hinted at Hall’s trading this offseason. Clarence Hill, who has been a Dallas Cowboys insider since 1997, also sparked Breece’s trading speculations. “Something is in the works… Aaron Whitecotton let the Cowboys know,” he tweeted. Of course, Whitecotton, Breece’s former coach with the Jets, is now the defensive line coach for the Cowboys. So, the relationship is quite real. Additionally, a few days back, ESPN’s Jets reporter Rich Cimini also indicated Hall’s trade. “Hall is among a handful of players up for a contract extension, most notably cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson, both drafted the same year as Hall. It will be difficult to keep them all long term,” she stated.
The fact that the Jets have already selected the fifth-year options on Wilson’s and Gardner’s contracts shows how important the two playmakers are to the AFC East team. They may even be the team’s top two players, and undoubtedly, they will be given more consideration than Hall for any long-term contracts. Well, a home-run batter is needed at running back. Does a Hall trade make sense, though? Regardless, amid trade rumors, Hall’s cryptic message went viral on social media.
Breece Hall shares a cryptic message amid trade speculations
Clearly, for over two months, the name of Breece Hall has been mentioned as a possible trade option. As the Jets already have their strong running back room with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, some think that Hall may be traded to generate draft capital as he enters the last season of his rookie 4-year $9,014,774 contract.

Amidst this, the NFL RB took to social media to send the cryptic message. He simply posted a ‘fingers crossed’ sign in his post caption. Soon after his post, his fans started wondering if that was a slight against the Jets. Well, this might suggest many different things, but the most likely ones are that Hall was informed that a trade to a particular team was being considered, that a deal is being negotiated, and that he hopes it works out. Surprisingly, a number of teams are in need of a starting RB, and the Cowboys have been floated as a potential destination.
Although it is still unclear what Breece’s future holds. But, after his post, fans have subsequently flocked to social media to share their concern about Hall’s trading, leaving the Jets with a running back hole even with Allen and Davis. Trading him before free agency could yield value for the Jets. But Mougey’s remarks hint that the Jets’ front office might also choose not to pursue that route heading into the 2025 season.
