Is the Jets' ultimatum to Reddick a smart move, or could it backfire spectacularly?

The Jets haven’t been able to take off. Problems started in the offseason. When they told Haason Reddick to play for one year on his current salary of $14.25 million non-guaranteed base salary, he refused to accept it. And the linebacker did a contract holdout. Both sides were firm on their ground. As a result, fines of more than $5 million have been put on Reddick. He’s trying to find a way out.

A few days ago, the LB hired Drew Rosenhaus to sort out the differences. And he has been partly successful. The top NFL agent talked to Jets GM Joe Douglas. And got some good news for Haason Reddick’s fans. The Athletic’s Diana Russini reported that the team has given a short time to Reddick and his agents to seek a trade. Over the last 12 hours. After the Jets have given their final verdict, Rosenhaus has been hyperactive and gauging the interest of various teams for the linebacker.

Before getting the green light for a trade, Rosenhaus also had a word to sort out the differences. He and Douglas discussed the contract matter. Unfortunately, both couldn’t find a common ground. Now, the way ahead is a new trade for Haason Reddick. Could he find it? We’ll see.

The agent has a vast experience in such complex situations. In 2005, Plaxico Burress had a similar contract dispute with the New York Giants. But Rosenhaus had then successfully convinced Giants’ management to end the standoff. Burress was later signed for a 6-year $25 million contract and played 4 seasons for them will 2008.

Haason Reddick is also eyeing a similar way out with the help of a top NFL dealmaker. He has been in the news for other reasons as well.

Haason Reddick sued for $1.6 million by business partner

What’s your perspective on:

Is the Jets' ultimatum to Reddick a smart move, or could it backfire spectacularly?

Have an interesting take?

The Jets linebacker is having a dispute in businesses as well. His business partner, Micah Khan, has filed a lawsuit against him. Here are the details. In 2018, he bought Haven Home Health Agency. Since he was busy with football, Raymond Matthews, LB’s father, and Tia Wright, Matthews’ ex-wife, ran the business. But it was in the loss by 2021 without any clients.

Hence, they approached Khan, who had experience in that business sector. Over time, he worked hard and made it successful. In 2024, Haason Reddick decided to sell his company to MNH Pa. Home Care Acquisitions for $3.25 million. But there was a clause in their contract with Khan that mentioned that 50% of the sale money would go to him. There, the dispute began.

Khan alleged that when he reached out to the LB for money, Matthews conducted a business meeting. During the meeting, Reddick’s father brought many men wearing black gloves who claimed they were security personnel. After failing to get the amount, he sued Haason Reddick.

All in all, the linebacker is under dispute in almost all areas of his life. Time will tell how he comes out of it.
