Is Aaron Rodgers too distracted to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl victory?

Is Aaron Rodgers finished? The New York Jets QB is a hot topic these days. On July 11, 2024, Rodgers wished to reunite with his former Green Bay Packers wide receiver, Davante Adams. Amid all the chatter about a near-impossible trade, some NFL experts are yet to be convinced of Aaron Rodgers himself! The veteran QB is no stranger to controversies and skipping the minicamp has made him a magnet for criticism.

After former NFL QB Tim Hasselbeck’s initial criticism in June, ‘Boomer & Gio’ has taken it to another level! Ripping into a “distracted” Aaron Rodgers, host Gregg Giannotti aka Gio said the Jets are not reaching the “promise-land” with a “40-year-old” quarterback leading the pack. Gio also called out Rodgers for enjoying an overseas holiday in Egypt, whereas others were sweating it out during the minicamp. The Jets haven’t played playoff football in over a decade and according to Gio, “Man, he’s (Rodgers) just not the guy” to make it happen.

As per the podcaster, the Super Bowl winner had a better chance of ending the Jets’ drought in 2023. However, with an Achilles injury, political activities, and other distractions, Gio thinks Rodgers’ time at the top may have ended! The podcaster also believes the coaching set-up of Robert Saleh and Nathaniel Hackett isn’t helping the QB’s cause either. Hence, despite a “Hall of Fame” career, “it ain’t happening” for Rodgers in 2024.

Nathaniel Hackett has caught a lot of flak this off-season. After his disastrous spell with Russell Wilson at the Broncos, Hackett got the Jets’ job last season. However, the OC couldn’t get his offensive players firing and the team ended with a losing record (7-10). But ahead of the 2024 season, the 44-year-old has a “completely different” feeling. With Hackett having Aaron Rodgers in the line-up, the Jets fans can be optimistic about the next season. Not just the coaching staff, but even the fans can’t wait for some success since their only Super Bowl win in 1968.

Aaron Rodgers makes a promise

After returning from his Egypt holiday, Aaron Rodgers is prepping for the preseason training camp later in July. But on July 10, during one of Rodgers’ golf sessions, he ran into a passionate Jets fan who had an earnest request to Rodgers – win a Super Bowl. As the emotional fan started crying, Rodgers promised the fan, “We’ll win a Super Bowl.” It will be interesting to see whether the four-time NFL MVP can bear the burden of such a massive promise!

His former Green Bay Packers teammate, James Jones, has some apprehensions about Rodgers. During FS1’s ‘Speak’, Jones said, “I know Aaron Rodgers is special, he has special arm talent… but with that being said, you gotta play the games. You are four plays into New York Jets uniform. The last time you were fully healthy, it wasn’t your best season. So we don’t know what Aaron Rodgers we’re gonna get!”

Fans can finally move on from the ‘unexcused leave’ drama with the preseason looming large. Can Aaron Rodgers, with 59,055 passing yards and 475 touchdowns, silence his critics and add another ring to his illustrious career? Only time will tell.
