Jerry Jones is one of the most influential NFL owners out there. He keeps a tab on everything that happens in the Cowboys. Be it contract extensions, injuries, or signing new players. However, he sometimes (probably often) makes single-handed decisions, which others might not agree with. We saw it during the 2024 off-season when he didn’t sign a contract extension with the WR CeeDee Lamb till the season started. Starting in March, he dragged the conversation till late August, resulting in poor rep for the franchise.
He admitted his haste in some decisions on December 27. During his appearance on the 105.3 The Fan show, Jerry Jones accepted that he didn’t give much thought to signing LT Tyler Guyton, 29th overall, and Center Cooper Beebe, 73rd overall, in the 2024 NFL draft. While talking about his draft mindset, Jones said, “(I) probably got a little out over my skis, thinking just plug those guys in.” But the real shock to the fans came when he expressed regret in 3 words that were, “(We’ve) paid the price (to some degree).” No one thought he would come with this revelation.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan when talking about rookie offensive linemen Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe, said he “probably got a little out over my skis, thinking just plug those guys in.”
Guyton was drafted to replace LT Tyron Smith. Beebe replaced center Tyler…

However, it was expected. A rookie might fill a veteran’s shoes in some aspects, but to expect him to be great in his first year is a little over-demanding. Guyton came in as a replacement for LT Tyron Smith, who was with the team for 13 years before moving to the NY Jets. In 145 games, the former LT had 9369 snaps for America’s Team. Even if Guyton matched Smith in skills, the camaraderie takes time to build. Jerry Jones needs to understand that.
The same is the situation for Cooper Beebe, who replaced Tyler Biadasz, now in Commanders. He had also played 4 seasons for the Cowboys and recorded 3725 snaps in 61 games. So the owner needs some patience and gives some time for rookies to perform.
However, it’s more about the Trophy. 3 decades without any Super Bowl has raised questions about the management time and again. Right now, it’s about keeping their locker room healthy.
Jerry Jones shares a positive update about CeeDee Lamb’s injury
Throughout the season, the Cowboys receiver has played through an AC joint injury. However, he was ruled out of the 2024 season. During the show, the owner also revealed some good news and added, “more damage would require surgery. It’s very healable without the surgery at this level.” So, the decision is right.

For CeeDee Lamb, the season has ended much below his expectations. In 15 games in the 2024 season, he had 101 receptions for 1194 receiving yards with 6 touchdowns. So, Jerry Jones would only be hoping for a fast recovery, without any much implications.
