The Cowboys‘ free agency has been a mixed bag—some wins, some head-scratchers. Locking in Osa Odighizuwa for four more years? Smart move. Adding Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams to the backfield? That’s some serious firepower. But then, there’s the flip side—Cooper Rush is on his way out, heading to Baltimore. And let’s be real, that backup QB spot isn’t exactly locked down.

Moves have been made, but there’s still work to do. And as it turns out, the Cowboys know it too. On Sunday, the Cowboys’ EVP Stephen Jones shed some light on their future moves in free agency. “We’re not done yet,” he said. “We still got some things that are out standing that we’re trying to get done.”

“Missed a few guys along the way too in terms of the number, just being a lot higher than we thought it would be on a couple guys. Overall, we’re really pleased with what we were able to do with our roster and help the team.” Let’s cut to the chase now. Dallas currently has 74 players on their roster. Out of these, the Cowboys acquired two players via trade, eight via signing in free agency, and ten players signed to reserve/future contracts.

That said, the America’s team still has 16 spots left on their roster. But before moving on with that, let’s talk about what Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones did with their roster. For starters, they’ve surely tried bolstering their D-line. The reason? See it this way: first, they extended Odighizuwa’s contract for a four-year $80 million deal. And to add depth to their D-line, they brought veteran DT, Solomon Thomas, on a two-year $8 million deal and DE, Dante Fowler on a one-year $8 million.

As far as their offense is concerned, the Cowboys first extended KaVontae Turpin’s contract on a three-year $18 million deal. On top of that, they signed Sanders, Williams, and Parris Campbell in free agency. And now’s the interesting part. See, despite extending major contracts and signing a couple of vets on their roster, JJ and Co. still missed on a few key players. Most notably? DeMarcus Lawrence and Jourdan Lewis.

And let’s not forget the elephant in the room. Their QB issues. Because let’s be real—with Cooper Rush off to Baltimore and with Dak Prescott’s 2025 season still up in the air, the Cowboys are stuck in limbo for their QB1. So now what? Well, they still have 16 spots available on their roster. That means JJ and Stephen have a lot to tackle this offseason. Whether via free agency, through trades, or in the NFL draft.

Speaking of which, the Cowboys have 10 picks in this year’s NFL draft. To make things even spicier, the Cowboys are well-known for their blockbuster signings when it comes to signing undrafted free agents. Take last year’s draft, for instance. 12 signings. 3 still on the roster and 3 more on the other teams. 50% of undrafted free agents are still playing in 2025.

That said, if Jerry Jones really wants to flip the script in 2025, the coming few months are surely going to be crucial. However, one big name is still looking for a well-deserved contract extension—Micah Parsons.

Jerry Jones’ Cowboys aren’t disappointed with not extending Micah Parsons’ contract

“I don’t need 40M per year,” that’s Micah Parsons for you when he was asked whether he needs $40M per year to remain in Dallas. Fast forward to now, and let’s just say how fast the nights change. The reason? Well, as per Dallas News’ Calvin Watkins, “Cowboys star LB Micah Parsons is seeking a record $200M contract extension that would make him the NFL’s highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.”

Well, whether this sudden turn of events took place before or after Myles Garrett’s record-breaking contract extension—we’ve no clue. But one thing’s for sure: Parsons is still signed through the 2025 season with the Cowboys, and a massive contract extension is surely on the cards for him. However, the Cowboys’ EVP Stephen Jones said there’s no disappointment that they haven’t gotten a new deal done yet with Parsons.

“We’ve had visits with Micah, Jerry and I have. We feel good about that,” he said. “Some guys want to visit. And some guys don’t want to visit about their money. We respect both ways. But if players want to come in and talk to us, we got an open-door policy, whether it’s Jerry or myself. Micah likes to visit, so that’s a good thing.” See, considering how this offseason turned out for the edge rushers, no doubt Parsons had a change of mind. And why not?

I mean, the Cowboys’ defense runs on his chaos, and no wonder he’s the guy offenses lose sleep over. However, considering the Cowboys and Parsons’s agents haven’t had any serious talks, we can assume the 25-year-old LB might sit out of the OTAs and minicamp. And if there’s no deal by June, don’t be shocked when Parsons remains absent from the camp.
