Jerry Jones doesn’t lose sleep over agents—he made that loud and clear. But playing the waiting game with contracts? That’s where things get dicey. Just ask Dak Prescott. The Cowboys dragged their feet on his extension, only to end up paying a hefty price. Now, with pass-rusher salaries hitting new highs, Jones is in a familiar spot. But this time, he’s handling things differently—with Micah Parsons, he’s taking matters into his own hands. Literally.

The Cowboys’ owner is in no rush for Parsons’ contract. In fact, he just admitted that he’d been having direct talks with Parsons for his contract extension rather than worrying about his agents. “The agent is not a factor here or something to worry about. And I don’t know his name. And so my point is…this isn’t about an agent. The agent doesn’t have one thing to do with what we’re doing when we get on a football field against the team. Micah does,” he said.

“To the degree I’m involved, I do. The people that have something to do with what we do going forward relative to our fans and football are me and the player, not the agent. And I’m not demeaning the agent. I’m just saying anybody can do this. And that’s talking directly to a player.” See, that’s something only Jerry Jones could pull off. And trust me, it’s not the first time he’s done such a thing.

Remember when he bypassed traditional channels and hashed out Dez Bryant’s contract directly with Jay-Z in a wine cellar? Yeah, instead of the usual back-and-forth with Bryan’s agent, JJ took another route and negotiated directly with the person who was running Bryant’s agency. The result? Bryant inked a five-year $70 million contract. And now?

Well, it’s time for Micah Parsons. And instead of taking that traditional approach to negotiate with Parsons’ agent, JJ is out there focused on direct communication with the fifth-year DE. And why not? At one point, Parsons surely admitted that he didn’t want $40 million a year to remain in Dallas.

But cut to the present and the way pass rushers’ salaries are escalating (thanks to Myles Garrett’s monstrous contract extension), the 25-year-old Parsons is reportedly seeking a $200 million deal from the Cowboys. And if that deal’s done, then the two-time Pro Bowler, who recorded 52.5 sacks in just four seasons, will become the highest-paid non-QB in the league.

And for that, Jerry Jones has taken the matter into his own hands and is discussing Parsons’ next deal with him in person.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jerry Jones' direct approach with Parsons a genius move or a financial disaster waiting to happen?

Jerry Jones is ready to pay more to Micah Parsons

“I don’t need $40M per year,” Micah Parsons’ words echoed in Dallas back in December last year. At that point, it seemed like the guy was looking to be surrounded by good players rather than seeking a hefty payday. But nope. Time changes. Especially during the NFL offseason. Just look at Myles Garrett—remember when he was about to leave Cleveland after requesting a trade? Now, he’s signed a massive four-year, $160M deal.

And let’s be real—Parsons just saw Garrett inking a $40M year deal with the Browns. Plus, the way this offseason has treated pass rushers, no doubt Parsons had a change of mind. But the only concern is that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are playing waiting game rather than signing a deal with Parsons. And when JJ was asked about the same thing, the Cowboys’ owner straight-up declared that, “I’d rather pay more and get it right.”

Well, if history has taught us anything about the Cowboys’ delaying contracts, then it’s safe to say that it didn’t work out in their favor—not always. Remember when the Cowboys franchise tagged Prescott instead of finalizing his contract extension? Yeah, after Dallas offered him a $160M contract extension back in 2021, Stephen Jones didn’t feel shy while confessing the regret of not signing the QB earlier.

Anyway, the silver lining is that the Cowboys are finally considering Parsons’ well-deserved extension.

On top of that, Jerry Jones has already discussed the contract terms with him. And we’re talking direct communication here, folks. No agent involved. “I’ve spent five-six hours with him (Parsons) myself and had a lot of discussions. Most of the issues are in agreement, and I’ve discussed it all and so.” He explained. That said, one thing’s for sure: after Garrett, Micah Parsons is ready to snag a massive deal in this offseason.
