Jerry Jones has now become a regular feature in almost every headline related to the Cowboys. The reason? Plenty. The decisions made this offseason have left the fans and many analysts scratching their heads. Dan Orlovsky is one of those analysts who recently shared his thoughts on the mess going on with the Cowboys. But what exactly is happening with the Cowboys? (question of the decade!)
Jerry Jones has been running the Dallas Cowboys for decades, and you know there are quite mixed opinions on his way of sailing the boat. Well Dan Orlovsky, the ex-NFL quarterback, had some strong opinions on the same. He warned that the Cowboys’ locker room might be falling apart because of a ‘disappointing offseason’ and some weird coaching changes. Orlovsky said, “If I was a player, I would be very discouraged right now. I really would with just the way this off-season has gone and the way last off-season went.” He’s not wrong though, to have a team with so many changes surely affects the team spirit.

So to give you some context, they brought in Klayton Adams as the new offensive coordinator. Then, they brought back an old friend, Matt Eberflus, to handle the defense. Eberflus knows the Cowboys well since he was the linebackers coach from 2011 to 2015. And to top it off, they hired Nick Sorensen to lead the special teams.
See Orlovsky was wondering if any of the team’s stars, like Micah Parsons, actually believed in the team’s direction. He asked, “Which one of their five, six, seven best players looks at this situation and truly feels, ‘We’ve got a real chance?’”. I mean the locker room incident feels like just the start of a weird chain of events now. So after the Cowboys’ embarrassing 47-9 loss to the Lions on Jerry’s 82nd birthday, things got awkward for him. He had an uncomfortable walk back to the locker room, and it was all caught on video. This loss was the worst home defeat since he bought the team. But to be honest, this is the second most talked about thing about the Cowboys, first is still Brian Schottenheimer’s appointment as their HC. Yeah, and there are a lot of reactions on that and Ivrin didn’t wait for a minute to make his comments known.

Michael Irvin on Schottenheimer Hiring as the Cowboys HC
Michael Irvin was quite animated with the recent addition to Dallas. During his appearance on the ‘Speak’ show, he talked about the Cowboys’ decision to promote Brian Schottenheimer as the Cowboys HC. He called it a “lost opportunity” for the team to bring in some fresh leadership and make a bold move. Oh, Irvin didn’t just rant about things, he even suggested a name. “It’s disappointing they didn’t seriously consider Deion Sanders, despite Jerry Jones having conversations with him. He could have been a game-changer for the team,” Irvin said. Sanders is the current Colorado Buffaloes HC, his real success was at Jackson State, where he led the team to two SWAC championships and improved their recruiting by a mile.
Irvin thinks promoting Schottenheimer, who has no head coaching experience, was a risky move. He believes this decision shows that the Cowboys are looking for familiar faces, which might not be the best strategy for a team trying to break their championship drought. “Promoting Schottenheimer, who has no head coaching experience, was risky. It showed a preference for familiarity over innovation,” Irvin pointed out. As the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, Schottenheimer helped the team finish with the highest-scoring offense in the league in 2023. However, the events of this season overshadow that achievement.

The 2024 season was tough for the Dallas Cowboys. They finished with a 7-10 record, landing them in 3rd place in the NFC East. The season was full of ups and downs, with some good wins but also some disappointing losses. This situation has left fans and analysts wondering if the Cowboys missed out on a chance to shake things up and bring in a new perspective. While Irvin’s comments might not represent all Cowboys fans, he’s certainly not telling any lies. We’ll have to wait for the next season to see what changes Brian will bring to the Dallas dynasty.
