Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys had a lot of things to do this offseason after their embarrassing 7-10 run. For starters, hiring a new head coach, which they’ve already done after JJ promoted Brian Schottenheimer as the new HC when everyone was looking for Deion Sanders. Then there’s Dak Prescott’s cap hit and Micah Parsons‘ due contract extension already hitting some spicy headlines.
And yeah, the Cowboys have been chasing a Super Bowl for, what, three decades now? Safe to say, Jerry Jones has a lot on his to-do list for 2025. And believe me, when I talk about his to-do list, it isn’t just limited to the NFL. Nope, he’s got some serious issues going on off the field as well. Yeah, you read that right. JJ has had a civil assault lawsuit pending against him, which was originally filed back in 2020.
But this trial just won’t sit still. First, it was locked in for March 18, 2024. Then, it got pushed to March 2025. And now? Yep, it’s been moved again—this time to August. Once again! The jury trial for the civil lawsuit against Jerry Jones is now set for August 11. Just last week, the attorneys for both Jerry Jones and the plaintiff showed up in front of Dallas County District Court Judge Aiesha Redmond.

As per the conclusion of the hearing, Redmond ruled the trial (originally scheduled for March 3) would be further delayed. The lawsuit originally filed back in September 2020 was initially dismissed but reopened by the Texas Supreme Court. The suit was filed by a South Carolina woman who alleges the Cowboys owner, “kissed her on the mouth and forcibly grabbed her without her consent” in the Tom Landry Room of AT&T Stadium after a Cowboys game back in 2018.
However, in an affidavit, Jones declared that if deposed, he would mention that he doesn’t remember meeting the woman. On top of that, he also stated that he didn’t assault the woman and called the allegations “Categorically false.”
All in all, it is safe to say that Jerry Jones has got a lot to deal with in 2025 besides Micah Parsons’ contract and the Cowboys’ Super Bowl drought.
Either it’s a contract extension or a new team for Micah Parsons?
2025 in the NFL as of now? Feels less like a season and more like a plot twist marathon. First, the Browns‘ defensive end, Myles Garrett declared that he doesn’t want to play in Cleveland. Then there’s the 49ers‘ wide receiver, Deebo Samuel, who requested the team to trade him elsewhere. And now? Well, Micah Parsons is open to signing his contract extension but looks like Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are in no mood to put pen on paper anytime soon.
And that’s where the former NFL player Emmanuel Acho comes in. You see, Acho believes in the same viewpoint for Parsons if the Dallas team isn’t gonna offer him an extension. “Is this a warning shot none of us are talking about? Free agency opens on March 12th. So Micah could easily be saying, look if y’all don’t make these moves, why would I sign here? If y’all don’t make these moves, why would I commit the next five years of my life, my prime?” He stated.

Well, he’s not wrong. But there can be two reasons for Parson’s decision to request a trade. First one, of course, Jerry Jones’ organization is delaying his due contract extension. The second and the most interesting one? He’s been with the Cowboys for four years and the team hasn’t been to the NFC championship. Nope, they didn’t even reach the championship in the last three decades.
That means, if Parsons is actually rooting for a Super Bowl, then he may think of a trade. On the other side, Jerry Jones has made a name for himself when it comes to ruining contract extensions. And you can bet Micah Parsons isn’t about to let that slide. Now that the free agency opens on March 12, let’s see if the Cowboys are gonna build a solid roster for themselves.
