Is Jerry Jones' love for drama putting Micah Parsons' future with the Cowboys at risk?

“Sometimes you’ve got to be a villain.” That’s what LeSean McCoy spoke of CeeDee Lamb’s situation with the Dallas Cowboys. While that situation is at an impasse, the hosts of SPEAK are now looking at how Micah Parsons’ fate will play out next year, when he will want to become the highest-paid non-QB in the league.

Jerry Jones has a knack for making controversial statements to keep the Cowboys “relevant.” The famous “Zeke Who?” comment from 2019 is a testament to that. In 2024, the mantra has become “CeeDee Who?” and who knows the next year, it might be “Micah Who?” In the same spirit, the hosts of the show discussed Micah Parsons’ potential contract extension next year.

“Your second contract should be your easiest contract. If you’re nice and we drafted you, we love you, we’re going to pay you. That’s why I’m so confused with the Cowboys because you do got Micah Parsons coming up. And Micah is not about to be playing,” LeSean McCoy said on SPEAK.

“So, my thing is if Micah sits out, what are you going to tell him? ‘Well, I mean, you’re not as good as Myles Garrett.?” Dave Helman, who has worked with the Cowboys for an extended period thinks that Micah’s worst dreams are about to come true next year.

“I agree with you, that’s absolutely going to happen by the way. They will find flaws in Micah’s game. That’s how these things go,” Helman said while pointing out a distant future where the fans and Cowboys management will question the slightest dip in Parsons’ productivity and hold off on the extension based on that.

Speaking about the dip in conversation, here’s something interesting that the segment on SPEAK pointed out earlier. Players who held out from the training camp for an extended period saw a 42% average drop off in their numbers. It happened to Nick Bosa, who held out for a 5-year $170 million deal, then Chris Jones, Saquon Barkley, and Josh Jacobs of the Raiders.

Have an interesting take?

Will this apply to CeeDee Lamb right now, who’s holding out for a new deal? Are the Cowboys hoping for Lamb’s performance to take a dip, so they won’t have to pay him? What about Micah Parsons? Are they going to force him to hold out when the time comes to pay him, so his performance takes a dip?

Micah Parsons, just like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb is a force to be reckoned with, and testing them to the limits might actually become a reality for the American team. And believe it or not, Jones’ penchant for “relevancy” and “controversy” also forced Zeke’s hand to hold out in 2019.

Is Micah Parsons slated to suffer the same ordeal as Ezekiel Elliott and the others?

In early September 2019, Ezekiel Elliott secured a 6-year $90 million deal after a long holdout. He was privately working out in Mexico and the media kept pestering Jones asking when the deal was going to be done. At some point, Jerry Jones decided to poke fun at the situation saying, “Zeke who?” when asked about the situation.

Zeke found it a bit disrespectful then, but Jerry Jones was sure that he had earned a right to poke fun at him because of everything they had done together. In Zeke’s case, his performance actually improved when he had the third-best season of his career in 2019. Zeke missed one game that season and the Cowboys ended up with an 8-8 season. Had he been there, there would have been a chance for the Cowboys to make it to the playoffs.

If CeeDee Lamb misses several games in the coming season, it might be a dire situation for the Cowboys. And if by some chance his performance declines, not only the Cowboys might have a bad season, but he will always be questioned for his holdout. Also, remember when Micah Parsons re-posted CeeDee Lamb’s “lol” post on X? Seems like Parsons is already giving a side eye to the Cowboys which means that he’s aware of a future where things might not be in his favor. What do you think he will do then?
