Dak Prescott has been one of the most polarizing quarterbacks in the league’s current era. There are never-ending speculations about his contract extension and for the most part, Jerry Jones is the target of that conversation, and not in a good way. Jones’ statements about going “all in” and “we want Dak and that’s that,” have not been backed to the best of his abilities yet.

Earlier, Tom Pelissero pointed out how Prescott is due for a new contract that would go as high as $60 million. There isn’t a shortage of teams who won’t pay the QB a king’s ransom to get him on their side. To add to that conversation, Colin Cowherd has also sided with the Dallas Cowboys’ QB and took shots at the Dallas Cowboys owner.

Colin Cowherd thinks Dak Prescott has an advantage

Cowherd’s metrics of equating QB payout are their “production, team success, healthy, and leverage.” Per him, the Dallas Cowboys QB checks all those boxes. While production and health aspect of the metrics are self-explanatory, “team success”, per Cowherd is Prescott’s ability to carry the Cowboys to the playoffs. But leverage, is what stood out above all.

Prescott is 73-41 in his career as a starter, so it’s safe to say that his resume doesn’t look bad on paper. But for some reason, he doesn’t yield the same results in the playoffs. Prescott is 2-5 in the playoffs, and this remains a topic of debate as far as giving him an extension goes. Jerry Jones wants to kick the can down the road to see what comes of Prescott’s season this year and, per Cowherd, this behavior comes off as Jones’ fear of losing relevancy.

“This is where Dak is interesting is that one of the toughest decisions in the league is Dak. When he’s healthy he can win 10-11 games, when he’s healthy 500 or better. He would have a market. No question that Raiders would take him tomorrow if he was available,” said the host.

Cowherd took the final blow when he stated, “And the truth is, Jerry Jones is petrified of being irrelevant. Jerry’s ego feeds on relevance. Dak’s your quarterback, he’s upright, you’re relevant.” Prescott is in a weird position for sure where he has enough wins to make his resume look good, but not enough to take the Cowboys to the next level. But just like Pelissero and Cowherd, RGIII also decided to side with Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys just have to show Prescott how much they ‘love him’

Robert Griffin also sympathizes with Dak Prescott. It seems like the narrative about Dak Prescott is the same everywhere. No matter what he does, people wouldn’t take him seriously unless he delivers in the playoffs. But at the same time, Dak’s worth is going up by each passing day and Cowboys would have to do something to keep their cap space in check for the future.

“Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are sitting in the middle of a contract, Stallworth. Every single day that goes by, the Cowboys are just making the number for Dak Prescott go up,” said Griffin and added, “Dallas, what better option do you have out there than Dak Prescott, who played at an MVP level last year?” Griffin further stated, “But if you don’t show your quarterback that you love him, then you’re not going to get the best out of your team because he’s their leader. If you don’t back up their leader, who’s there for them to follow?”

Dak’s career has been inspiring, the QB lost his mother, his brother, broke his right ankle from a compound fracture in 2020, but still acts with poise and stays secretive about team’s business with him, while balling lights out in front of millions of people. He has persevered through adversity. But blaming Prescott single-handedly for Cowboys’ lack of playoff success appears to be a biased point of view. The bottom line is, Dak Prescott will get paid regardless of wherever he plays and would be one of the biggest contracts in the league.
