Dak Prescott is still awaiting a decision about his future with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. The quarterback will enter the final year of his four-year contract, and fans have been vying for an extension for quite some time. Despite expressing the franchise’s wish to retain its star player, Jerry Jones has yet to come to a decision.
The Cowboys have been called out for their latency in deciding upon their key players, which also includes CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons, apart from the QB. While reports around Prescott’s extension keep popping up now and then, an NFL host had a different outlook on the predicament.

Craig Carton called out the optimistic reports and had a reality check for the Cowboys fans. On The Carton Show, he talked about how if the franchise wanted Prescott back this season for sure, they would’ve made a move by now.
“Hey, do me a favor, put this out there, let people know who really want Dak Prescott to come back, yeah,” said the host. “You’ve had the entire offseason to have Dak Prescott locked up to come back. You’ve had all last year if you really wanted -to lock Dak Prescott up and guarantee he’s coming back.”
“Jerry Jones is not writing that big check.”

So now that there is no clear timeline around which Prescott’s contract negotiations would be settled, Carton opined that the Dallas owner intends to let the quarterback hit free agency. “But here, Jerry Jones is being quite specific, I think, in regards to Dak Prescott and others. And he’s not writing that big check, you know, he’s willing to let Dak Prescott -get to the free agency.”
The host also clarified that it’s a common misconception that when a player is bound to leave, however, it “just means he can now listen to everybody else in the league.” Amidst all the talk around the Dallas franchise QB, the question arises: what is the headspace of the man himself?

Dak Prescott: “I don’t play for money“
The Cowboys can afford to delay the decision revolving around their franchise quarterback, this much only because of Prescott’s incredible loyalty and patience. Despite no progress being made in months regarding the extension, the 30-year-old has expressed no concern or frustration so far. When asked about the situation after an OTA practice on May 23, the 2016 draft confessed that playing football is the only thing that matters to him, and he would leave the money part to the people in business.
“I don’t play for money. Never have never cared for it, to be honest with you,” said Prescott, as per ESPN, even though he got some flak for this take. “Would give it up just to play this game. So, I allow that to the business people to say what it’s worth, what they’re supposed to give a quarterback of my play, a person of my play, a leader of my play. For me, it’s about, as I said, control what I can control and handle that part and the rest will take care of itself.” It seems that it’s this passion for the sport that has given Jones the confidence to take his time around the extension.

“I, first of all, respect how Dak handles his business, period, as much as any player or any person that I’ve been associated with,” said the owner in April while explaining that the delay is only to figure out the logistics of the cap situation in the future, as per NFL Network. He didn’t hesitate to affirm, “We want Dak Prescott. That’s that.”
Next season, Dak Prescott is bound to hit the trade agency if an extension is not presented soon. While the quarterback and the owner Jerry Jones seem to be on the same page about the situation, what do you think about the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason moves?
