Well, Jerry Jones is mostly known for his confusing statements, unexpected recruiting of staff, and whatnot. But one thing the Dallas Cowboys owner is great at is picking up talents. From Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Deion Sanders to Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott, the list of quality players Jerry Jones has picked is long. But the list will remain incomplete if we don’t add one player’s name, who retired in 2023 but is now returning to the gridiron.
We are talking about former Cowboys WR, Michael Gallup. As per recent reports, he has officially unretired himself this year. And the latest in the pot? The NFL reporter Brady Henderson wrote on X about the update, saying, “The Seahawks are bringing in veteran receiver Michael Gallup for a free-agent visit, as @AaronWilson_NFL said. The 29-year-old Gallup, who had 3,744 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns over six seasons with Dallas, retired last summer after joining the Raiders.” Yep, you read that right. The Seattle Seahawks are hosting Michael Gallup for a trial for the upcoming season.

It is also said that Gallup, after unretiring himself in early March this year, has already visited Jayden Daniels’ Washington Commanders. But, according to Roto Wire, Michael Gallup would be a great fit for the Seattle Seahawks. Though the franchise has traded DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and released Tyler Lockett, Gallup would be deadly in combination with Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Gallup retired from the NFL on July 23rd last summer. He had been a star wide receiver for Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys. Let’s traverse his retirement journey while checking out his stats since the Cowboys drafted him in 2018. In the six years of his NFL career, Gallup received 266 passes from 479 targets. His tally for receiving yards goes up to 3,744 with a career average of 14.1 yards per reception. So, he was great at his job, but why did he end up taking retirement?
Rise, fall, and rise of Jerry Jones’ former wide receiver
In 2018, Jerry Jones’s organization picked up Gallup and from that year, he never joined any team on the field. Yeah, you read that right. Though the Las Vegas Raiders traded for him before the 2023 season, Gallup retired before playing for them. The main reason behind his retirement was an ACL injury that happened in 2021. After that injury, Michael Gallup never played his A-game.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Michael Gallup the missing piece for the Seahawks' offense after trading Metcalf and releasing Lockett?
Have an interesting take?

Talk about his top performance. Gallup was a 1000-yard receiver in 2019, which was only his second year in the league. But, unfortunately, sometimes injuries write your destiny. Gallup was helpless despite being courageous after the injury. He could not get to that top level again. Even with that, he was 3rd on the WR’s list of Las Vegas Raiders before choosing retirement. And after the 2023 season, everybody thought Michael Gallup’s career was over.

But he is back. After a brief retirement, it looks like Jerry Jones’ former WR, Michael Gallup, could join either the Commanders or the Seahawks in 2025. Who knows, the deal might extend beyond one season too. We just want to say, ‘Go and get it Gallup!’
