Cowboys’ Jerry Jones is all set to make wise investments with their draft capital! After enduring a tough 2024 season, the Cowboys’ owner is heading into the NFL Draft 2025 with four surprising compensatory picks. The NFL certainly gave them something to work on. After gaining 4 extra picks in the NFL Draft, Jerry Jones looks forward to upgrading his team roster for the 2025 season. Reportedly, the Cowboys have set their eyes on Texas star Quinn Ewers to replace outgoing free-agent quarterback Trey Lance.
One of the NFL’s fans provided a hint about Ewers’s visit to the Cowboys through a Twitter post. “Texas QB Quinn Ewers is scheduled for a ‘Top 30’ visit with the Dallas Cowboys,” Alex Dunlap mentioned in his post caption.
Interestingly, this update just came after Cowboys’ co-owner Stephen Jones cleared his stance on looking at drafting a new developmental quarterback in the April NFL Draft. As published on the NFL website on Feb 24, 2025, during The Dallas Morning News’ interview, Cowboys COO Jones explained the franchise expects QB Trey Lance to leave in free agency.

“We took a shot a Trey and wanted to do that,” Jerry Jones’s eldest son and Cowboys executive vice president, Stephen, remarked. “We think the world of Trey. But us having Dak (Prescott) signed up for the long-term, I think he’s probably going to be looking for something different,” the Cowboys CEO added.
Hence, Lance, who was traded to the Cowboys for a 2024 fourth-round pick in August 2023, is struggling to find a team where he can play as the starting QB. Following the 2024 season, Lance became a free agent since the Cowboys refused his contract’s fifth-year option back in May.
Well, it’s easy to attribute a predicted departure to a lack of opportunity at the top of the depth chart. However, Lance was never a real contender to take significant reps at center as the Cowboys showed their reliance on quarterback Cooper Rush in 2024.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Quinn Ewers the missing piece Jerry Jones needs to finally lead the Cowboys to glory?

Hence, Dallas is considering picking a fresh prospect rather than keeping Lance. But will they select Quinn Ewers as their new QB? Well, Jerry Jones will raise the curtain on this soon. Interestingly, Jones’s interest in Texas Star hyped up after the NFL awarded 4 compensatory picks to the Cowboys’ Draft plans.
Cowboys receive 4 compensatory picks for the 2025 NFL Draft
The Dallas Cowboys secured four extra picks in the NFL Draft. Surely, they must use it wisely. With this, Jerry Jones received seven selections between rounds five through seven. The Cowboys’s chances to build a solid roster with three extra fifth-round picks (Nos. 170, 171, and 174) and a sixth-rounder (No. 211) remains doable.
After a rough offseason, as the team lost 12 players in free agency and through the retirement of Leighton Vander Esch and Michael Gallup, the team needed to be revamped.

However, because of a trade with the Carolina Panthers for WR Jonathan Mingo and a seventh-round pick, Dallas will not have a selection in the fourth round. However, the Dallas Cowboys hold 10 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
This includes one in the first round (No. 12 overall), one in the second round (No. 44), one in the third round (No. 76), four in the fifth round (Nos. 149, 170, 171, and 174), two in the sixth round (Nos. 188 and 211), and one in the seventh round (No. 247).
