Dak Prescott’s contract has been one of the most talked-about things in the NFL recently. While the Dallas Cowboys picked 8 players in the 2024 drafts, none of those players were quarterbacks. Despite a receiver, the Cowboys are piling up on pieces to protect their QB, who they might not even have in the future.

Jerry Jones and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys stakeholders recently appeared at a presser and apprised the fans and media of the Cowboys’ recent situation. Unsurprisingly, Dak Prescott’s name keeps popping up time and again. This time, like all the others, Jones remained cryptic and reserved about his plans.

The reporter wanted to know the Cowboys’ thinking process going into the draft. He addressed Prescott’s last year with the team and asked how Jones is planning to fix the future QB requirements in case Dak is absent from the roster. The gist of Jerry Jones’ reply suggests that the Cowboys owner is fixated on the present.

Jones mentioned how Prescott is still under contract and that the Cowboys are still in a “pretty good spot.” “We have to think around the corner about future year. But right now, this whole position is under contract,” said Jones, adding later, “Dak, just because there’s not a reported communication, that doesn’t mean anything at all.”

The Cowboys owner also mentioned at one point that he’d like to see “more leaves fall” and that  “We’d like to see more action. It’s called option quarterback. I’ve spent my life [playing] option quarterback. I want to see some more cards played,” which might just mean that Jones is judging the players on how they play and will decide on his stance based on the observations.

Jones suggested that if the Cowboys think about Prescott’s contract, they will have to think about each year in the future, which the team doesn’t want to do. But just like Jerry Jones, Dak Prescott said the same thing about being patient and being in talks with the Cowboys owner.

Media caught hold of Prescott at a gala and asked him long-overdue questions about his contract. Prescott mentioned that the owner and himself had a “great conversation,” and didn’t reveal much beyond that.

I’m focused on the moment — the now,” he said. “When talks begin and real talk gets to happening, then we can talk about getting that done but, in this moment, I’m worried about getting better. I’m leaving that up to my agent and Jerry at this point. When those talks begin, I’ll be more involved obviously.”

“I’ve talked to Jerry so I understand where we are, obviously,” Prescott said. “Jerry’s mentioned the same so there’s not any gray area in that sense. We had a great conversation that put us aligned and where we are at this moment.”

Both Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott have the same thing to say: that they are figuring it out and are focused on the present. Their statements force the mind to be pessimistic about the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott’s association in the future. What do you think?
