Are the Cowboys slowly but steadily changing their fortunes this season? Going back to last month, the Cowboys were 3-7 after suffering five consecutive defeats. But look at them now. They have won 3 of their last 4 games and remain in the hunt for the playoffs. So, the conversation has shifted from Mike McCarthy’s future to those who aren’t present right now. Well, one of those people is Dak Prescott, whose $240M contract might get reworked.

See, the Cowboys have no doubt rewarded their home-grown players like Prescott and CeeDee Lamb with huge contracts. One is on a $231M guaranteed until 2029, and another has a $100M guaranteed. With Prescott out for the season, he didn’t really live up to his mammoth contract, at least for the first year. As for Lamb, he also hasn’t been in his usual form because of a shoulder injury this season.

It has somehow impacted his productions, as Lamb has only managed to score 6 TDs on 94 receptions. This led to Jones being questioned whether he would like some more cap space this offseason. However, Jones was like, “You got a limit as to the availability of the cap (in the future) when you flip those switches. You make your choices. It’s different (cap) management when you got the higher-priced player at quarterback.”

To help you get a better understanding of the Cowboys’ cap space, here’s an explanation. Right now, Dallas has $22.7M in cap space. Well, you could be wondering whether it’s really bad. As per ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys will get hit by a $20M dead cap space. If Zach Martin, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Brandin Cooks, none of them re-signs. And don’t forget they will have to take care of Micah Parsons, who remains as integral as Prescott and Lamb to the Cowboys.

Jerry Jones clears his stance on Micah Parsons’ future

The Cowboys Nation can criticize Jones all they want. But when it comes to his core crop of players, he remains fully committed. And that was yet again on show when Parsons’ future was brought up to Jones on 105.3 The Fan, “That’s never been uttered in this organization that we don’t have a future with Micah Parsons.” Well, Jones adds more reassurance on Parsons’ probable future with the Cowboys after his son did the same on Sunday.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Micah Parsons the real MVP for the Cowboys' playoff hopes this season?

Have an interesting take?

Giving his outlook on probable restructuring and Parsons’ future, Stephen Jones was like, “Obviously, we’re totally all-in on Dak and CeeDee. But after that, then you still shape things, including Micah. But Micah’s a great player. You don’t do well in this league, letting guys like Micah, usually, leave the house.” And they shouldn’t even think about something like that, as Jerry Jones already mentioned. Because Parsons had a huge role in the Cowboys winning their last few games. He recorded 7.5 sacks within a stretch of six games.

After 15 weeks, Parsons has 31 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 8 tackles for loss. Well, the 3-time Pro Bowler also believes he deserves that contract, “I’ve put in a lot of work. I’ve played hard, too, so obviously, if sides can’t agree to those types of things, it happens like that….Ain’t nothing really gonna make a difference. Micah is gonna play hard.” Now, it all comes down to the Cowboys owner yet again. What will he do to keep Parsons is one to watch out for.
