Can Dalvin Cook overcome his legal issues and shine with the Cowboys, or is this a risky bet?

Perhaps the rollercoaster ride for Dalvin Cook will finally stop! Cook’s career took a hit after he had shoulder surgery in the 2023 offseason. The Vikings let him go before training camp, and he signed with the Jets, where his performance dipped. In 15 games as a backup, he managed only “214 rushing yards, averaging 3.2 yards per carry,” a big drop from his usual numbers.

Consequently, the Jets eventually released him before the season ended. Then, he joined the Ravens for the playoffs. However, there as well, he had limited action, “rushing for 23 yards in their win over the Texans.” Since then, Cook has remained a free agent. But, it seems he finally found his home! According to the insider, Tom Pelissero, on his official X account, on August 26, 2024, “The #Cowboys might not be done: Sources say 4x Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook is flying to Dallas tonight for a visit.”

The reporter also added, “Unlike a year ago, when he was rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Cook has hit the weights all offseason and says he feels the best he has in years.” So, yes, Cook might finally land into the Dallas Cowboys if everything goes well, a much-needed NFL lifeline.

Earlier, when Cook was hit by a shoulder injury, he was considered one of the best running backs. For this, he was even named to the Pro Bowl in 2019 and 2022. As per stats, during those four consecutive years, he rushed for over 1,000 yards. But as the changes in the team and injury took place for him, Cook’s performance was shaken up.

Nevertheless, he once again feels he is ready for the NFL. And now, if he joins the Cowboys, the question is what will the team look like? Well, Jerry Jones’ team is in the hopes that Cook can regain his previous form to support their running back group. This group features players like “Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, Royce Freeman, and Deuce Vaughn.” If this happens, they might get a reliable running back to take pressure off the passing attack.

Till now, neither party has said anything about the potential deal between them. However, it’s interesting to note that even though Cook’s derailed NFL career might be on the verge of becoming healthy, his personal issues still need some time to overcome the battles he is facing.

Is the struggling period over for Dalvin Cook?

Have an interesting take?

Even though he feels he is ready for another NFL stint, Dalvin Cook’s legal issue might cause a problem. In 2020, his ex-girlfriend, Gracelyn Trimble, accused Cook of bat–ry and false imprisonment. And guess what? For four years, this legal battle continued. But now he can finally relax in that aspect. It is because, in a surprising twist, just before the scheduled court hearing in April, the case was suddenly closed. The reason? Well, it was because both the parties reached a settlement. Does this mean Cook’s legal battles are over?

Probably, not! Even though the case is settled, there’s still unfinished business. And that is – Cook has a defamation and trickery lawsuit against Trimble. This case remains pending with no trial date set yet. Initially, Trimble had sought damages of over $50,000.

However, some reports suggest that Cook’s lawyers offered her first $800,000 and then up to $1 million to clear his name by sending a letter to the league – “relieving Mr. Cook of any wrongdoing.” All in all, it remains to be seen what’s in store for Cook this year, as he is gearing up to revitalize his NFL career, potentially heading to join Dallas.
