The Dallas Cowboys might be short a quarterback in 2025. For the last few months, Dak Prescott has been waiting for the team to talk to him about his 4-year contract which will be ending after the 2024 season. However, with most offseason renewals, trades, and even the NFL drafts done, Jerry Jones and the team seem to have continued to keep him in the dark about his future with the team.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), a clip from RG3 and The Ones made its way online. The video featured the former quarterback, Robert Griffin III, sharing his thoughts on Prescott’s contract woes. In the clip, the 34-year-old stated that the athlete and his team were in the middle of “a contract stallworth.” After all, the wait had lasted three months now.

With days going by as everyone waits for the conversation to be brought up with Prescott, Griffin claimed that “the Cowboys are just making the number for Dak Prescott go up.” The analyst even complimented the athlete by asking Dallas what better option they had than the 30-year-old. After all, he may not have ever won an MVP award. However, the athlete did end up a finalist for the title multiple times.
The former NFL star also gave Jones a bit of advice saying that every Cowboys fan wanted the team to win, “But if you dont show your quarterback you love him, then you’re not gonna get the best out of your team.” And right now, the way for Dallas to do that is by giving Prescott the extension that he has been asking for. However, that might be a little difficult, thanks to the ripple effects of Jared Goff’s deal with the Lions.

A few months ago, Dak Prescott had no doubt that the Cowboys would offer him a new contract. However, with three months having flown by, the 30-year-old is not quite sure anymore. After all, he already received one extension back in 2021 for $160 million. Although it has been months, the team has made no effort to extend the star’s contract. However, it looks like the owner of the team, Jerry Jones, still wants to keep the athlete.

When asked if he wants to be paid top QB money he responded with:
"No, I'm not trying to be the highest paid necessarily. We'll wait until the negotiations begin and obviously want to put this… pic.twitter.com/Oh4yWFnw5R

A little before the NFL draft kicked off, everyone wanted to know whether Prescott would be part of Dallas for longer or whether the upcoming season would be his last. During an interview with the press, the 81-year-old stated, “We want Dak Prescott, and that’s that.” However, the team’s general manager also admitted that the salary cap was the only thing stopping him from giving the athlete what he wants.
Luckily for Jones, Prescott has no problems not being one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. However, with the 30-year-old already making $75 million in his first year and $40 million for the other three, the increase might be a little hard for Dallas to make. But there is no doubt that based on his plays this season, the athlete could receive the extension just as his contract expires.
