With a good feeling about Micah Parsons‘ contract extension, Jerry Jones‘ organization has announced something worth noting. Since the offseason started, the Cowboys have been busy moving important pieces, which will be one of the turning points in solidifying the backbone of Dak Prescott‘s team. Dallas reporter Jon Machota dropped a roster bomb on fans after revealing what Stephen Jones said on Monday.

The Dallas beat reporter posted on X, saying, “Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said LG Tyler Smith and kicker Brandon Aubrey are also players to add to this list that they’d like to get signed to contract extensions,” after revealing that DaRon Bland and Jake Ferguson are also on the list. These four Cowboys are currently in their final year of contracts. Extending their stay in the city with an extension can be crucial in the coming days.

Jake Ferguson signed a four-year, $4,364,884 deal with only $704,884 guaranteed, but it will end in 2025. Bland also signed a four-year rookie contract worth $3,964,788. As for the other two players’ contracts, Tyler Smith will be ending his four-year, $13,389,123 deal in 2026, whereas undrafted free agent Brandon Aubrey will have to negotiate a new deal after his three-year, $2,695,000 contract ends in 2025.

When talking about Bland and Ferguson, Stephen said they are really good players the team wants to keep around. He added that there are scenarios where the front office and both players can sit down and have a discussion. He also said, “You have to have two sides to get a negotiation done. We certainly look at that with those guys.” Specifically, Bland and Ferguson are crucial players for the team.

DaRon Bland, though his past season wasn’t great, made a total of 164 tackles, 120 of which were solo tackles. With one forced fumble and fumble recovery, he also recorded 14 interceptions. But while keeping him on the roster, Jerry Jones must also get Jake Ferguson to sign a contract extension. The tight end made 59 rushing attempts last season for 494 yards in the 2024-25 season.

Looking at Tyler Smith and Brandon Aubrey, the guard has played two seasons with the Cowboys so far. The placekicker’s story is different from the others. He made the Cowboys proud in the 2024 season by ranking first in long field goals and accumulating a high extra-point percentage. However, their contracts are about to end this season. If Jerry Jones’ team wants to keep this kicking powerhouse on the roster, a decently sized deal will be expected.

But while extending the contracts of these four star Cowboys, something big is brewing in Stephen Jones’ mind before the draft. For the upcoming draft, the Cowboys’ Executive Vice President has made a huge statement.

Jerry Jones’ Cowboys looking for star college RBs and pass rushers

Dallas reporter Jon Machota also posted what Stephen Jones, Executive Vice President, thinks about the upcoming NFL draft. The Cowboys EVP, while talking about this year’s draft class, said, “I think the running back group is really stout compared to past years. So I think there’s a great opportunity to pick up a young back.” When discussing Micah Parsons and other players, he added, “If the right guy is there in the draft, we’ll certainly entertain a pass rusher at any point.” But which RBs and pass rushers fit the Cowboys?

According to our mock draft, the Cowboys are expected to pick running back TreVeyon Henderson of Ohio State with their second-round 44th overall pick. In the third round, Jerry Jones could also pick Jaydon Blue of Texas at 76th overall. As for the edge position, Jerry Jones could select rusher Mykel Williams of the Georgia Bulldogs with their first pick. Williams showed strong capabilities at the combine with a final score of 77. Most importantly, Mykel Williams made 15 solo tackles in the 2024 season, along with 5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
