In the last 2 minutes, Baker Mayfield made an underhand pass to Rachaad White, but the Cowboys CB DaRon Bland took the ball away. The Buccaneers QB looked in disbelief, eyes wide open, as the home team sealed the win by 26-24. The Bucs needed the win as they would have landed in the playoffs. Well, if they fail to qualify for the playoffs, the Cowboys would be their Grinch. Mike McCarthy walked onto the field with his head high, and no emotion at all. However, Jerry Jones was at the other end of the emotional spectrum.

After the win, Jones didn’t hold back from praising the head coach and said, “Well, I’m just proud that they got rewarded and the team is playing at that level because he’ got them coached up to play at that level. Even though you realize when you’re not in those playoffs, you can’t get into a big one but he has this good of an emotional performance, effort performances as I’ve seen them and don’t know what to compare it to.” It’s clear. He was also happy with the win.

It’s a big show of support for the head coach. Even though Jerry Jones remained true to his nature, avoiding any clear statement about the HC’s future with the franchise in 2025. But this win certainly raised his stakes in the eyes of the owner. His past performances also have a major role.

In 5 seasons for the Cowboys, Mike McCarthy has taken them thrice into the playoffs. This year, Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury in the week 9 game against the Falcons made them falter in their path. But the coach has not let the development touch the locker room. Their focus has always been winning.

Even Jerry Jones likes this quality of his coach. This has made their personal bond stronger. That’s a big plus.
