Are the Cowboys doomed this season with McCarthy at the helm, or is there hope for a turnaround?

It’s week 10. But the performance of the Cowboys is dipping. Against the Eagles, they lost 6-34. This sent shockwaves among the fans. GM Jerry Jones was unhappy. But there was nothing he could have done. Fans were trying to find the person whom they could blame.

After much talk about the future of the head coach Mike McCarthy, the GM has finally put an end to all rumors. While Jones blamed all the coaches for the poor showdown, he also mentioned that no changes would be made till the end of this season. “I don’t believe we’ll make a coaching change during the season,” were his exact words. Speaking from experience, the GM claimed that he had fired coaches in-season and had always regretted those decisions.

For now, the coach’s future is safe. But his reputation is at risk. And it would hurt him dearly. McCarthy, a Super Bowl winner coach, has an experience of nearly two decades. But a 3-6 win-loss record after week 10 raises serious questions. He has to do something to save his team and players from further disappointment.

Ever since the coach joined, he has been overshadowed by the owner. Jerry Jones is the go-to man of the Cowboys. He gives interviews, discusses contracts, and reveals ongoing situations at the franchise. The role of the HC has mostly been limited to training. But still, the HC has to infuse the winning mentality in the locker room.

The team also has to pick themselves back up if they want to end the season with a respectable result. Can’t slack anymore!

Will Jerry Jones not fire Mike McCarthy?

There has always been this talk among the Cowboys fans. When will Jerry Jones do what he says? Earlier, he said that the team wanted to go all-in, but the team has been slipping down further into the rabbit hole and is in the 3rd position in the NFC East. The week 6 loss against the Lions by 9-47 and the week 10 loss against the Eagles by 6-34 were worse.

Known for doing the unexpected, he delayed the contract extension of CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott during the entire off-season. He wasn’t sure and did it just before the season began. Had he done it earlier without the banter, things would have been much easier.

The coach has to be alert. You can’t trust Jerry Jones in his words. And there’s no surety that he wouldn’t take back his words and do completely the opposite. According to the analyst Mike Florio, Jones has done similar things in the past as well, particularly 14 years back. He said that he wouldn’t fire the head coach Wade Phillips, but fired him 3 days later.

So there are a lot of things at stake here. If the coach McCarthy couldn’t turn around the season, his days could be numbered. There would be sadness in the locker room, but things have to change if they are all in.
