Can Dak Prescott's calm under pressure finally lead the Cowboys to break their Super Bowl drought?

The Cowboys have found their way. For the time being, we can say so. They opened the season with a win but lost back-to-back games. But Dak Prescott, the highest-paid quarterback (yearly salary-wise) of the NFL, took them back on the winning path. After the week 5 win against the Steelers, they are taking everything positively.

Jerry Jones, the Cowboys GM and owner, recently appeared on the 105.3 The Fan show and said, “Sometimes it looks like there’s some expression going on that is not necessarily one that is easily interpreted. You can have some pretty serious looks out there and you can’t tell what they might be saying.” For those of you who didn’t get it, there was a serious moment between the QB and the WR CeeDee Lamb on the sidelines.

The pressure to win is supreme. It makes you attempt those things which you otherwise might not do. When Dak Prescott made a throw to Lamb, the Cowboys were only 10 yards from the end zone. It certainly made him angry, after which the receiver yelled some words to the quarterback who listened to it looking to the ground. He didn’t respond at all.

The clarification from Jerry Jones is a laughable one. Not for the things he said, but for the person he is. During the off-season, he didn’t extend any contract cordially. After analysts and fans criticized him for his shrewd antics during negotiations with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, he signed an extension at the last moment.

While the WR didn’t attend the training camp and preseason, the QB always kept his emotions under control.

Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others.” This quote perfectly sums Dak Prescott sitting on the sidelines while Lamb is yelling at him. The pass has just been intercepted. With his eyes opened wide open, the QB is looking down. His pose reminds of a Samurai on his knees, surrounded by enemies but plotting his plays, ready to defeat them.

Anyone can tell that a thousand thoughts are going through his mind, but Dak Prescott isn’t fazed. This trait is widely known as ‘The Pause.‘ This can also be interpreted as the ability to process your emotions in the middle of a pressure situation. It helped him to move ahead and win the game against Steelers.

It was evident during the contract talks. While others were anxious, he was calm. He once said that he wasn’t focused on money as that would take care of itself. He also supported his receiver, claiming that the team should sign him soon, and once he was back, he only needed a couple of training sessions to click again.

As a veteran, Dak Prescott has seen enough games. However, the Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl in 3 decades (almost). Can he do it this year? We’ll find out in a few months.
