Jerry Jones’s Cowboys took a major blow on February 20 when Zack Martin announced his retirement. Martin’s departure not only left a void in the O-line to fill but also impacted the salary cap. Amidst all this, they have a few contract extensions to sort out, including Micah Parsons. His contract talks are something everyone is fixated on, but sadly, there has been no word about it yet. How will the team deal with all this off-season chaos? Well, as long as they have Jerry, they can work everything out smoothly. And they’ve already started by filling in Martin’s void.
So, who is filling the big shoes of Zack Martin? Well, Jerry loves to find replacements within the squad without exploring too much out there, just like he did in the case of the head coach. This time, though, the replacement looks legit. Dallas re-signed center Brock Hoffman on Tuesday, who will eventually get a shot this season to fill in Martin’s shoes full-time.
The Cowboys have re-signed G/C Brock Hoffman, per @nickeatman.
Hoffman finished the year as the starting right guard. He’ll have a chance to replace Zack Martin full time.
Below is a feature I wrote last year about Hoffman being a “lightning rod” for the Cowboys offense. https://t.co/bCbVSuTFeK

Now, this is a big shot for Hoffman, who went undrafted in the 2022 draft. The Browns picked him up, only to keep him on their practice squad before eventually releasing him. Then, the Cowboys gave him their jersey to don. The Virginia Tech alum has filled in for Martin before, as well. Brock has played both as the right guard and the center.
Although the team has not said anything about whether Hoffman would be the guy to replace Zack or not, they also have Cooper Beebe on the squad. But looking at Hoffman’s play, the chances are that the team will most likely go ahead with him.
Hoffman is not the only player Dallas has decided to keep on the squad. The team finally made their decision on defensive star Osa Odighizuwa as well.
Jerry Jones’s Cowboys Secure Osa Odighizuwa
Osa’s contract extension talks have been happening since the Combine week. The defensive star was set to hit free agency this month. But as CEO Stephen Jones put it at the NFL Combine, “We have had negotiations with Osa. I just think Osa is a really good football player. He’s an important piece.” Dallas has decided to keep their ‘important piece.‘ On Tuesday, the team re-signed him to a four-year, $80 million deal with their defensive tackle. That locks Osa with Jerry Jones until 2029.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Brock Hoffman truly fill Zack Martin's legendary shoes, or is this a gamble for the Cowboys?

The Cowboys were considering putting a franchise tag on Osa if the two parties had not managed to reach an agreement. The UCLA alum would have pocketed $25.1 million for the 2025 season had the team placed a franchise tag on him. This is the first time in many years that Dallas has rained dollars on a defensive tackle.
Osa will get $20 million as a signing bonus, and his new deal includes $52 million in guaranteed money. The plus point for the Cowboys is that this contract does not harm their salary cap, meaning they will have no trouble signing players from free agency. This will hopefully help them reach an extension deal with Micah as well.
Jerry Jones has sorted the contracts of two players before free agency. So, this was the reason for his absence at the Scouting Combine. Well, this is rather unusual, as Mr. Jones has always been known for delaying contracts for both players and coaches. But it’s a good move. Now, the Cowboys Nation is waiting on Micah Parsons’ contract decision. Everyone’s hoping the team won’t let go of their star LB.

There’s a year left on Micah’s contract, but he has been asking for an extension. So, maybe it’s time for Jerry to make another move for the roster.
