Jerry Jones finally decided on the Dallas Cowboys’ new head coach two days ago after a whirlwind search. The Cowboys have promoted their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, to take charge of the team. But with their off-season already weeks old and the new season set to start on September 6, the Cowboys have one more issue to deal with. Do you want to know what the issue is? Let’s dive in.
The issue on which Jerry Jones has talked about is his succession. There were already talks about who will lead the Cowboys after the 82-year-old Jerry Jones. But Jones himself has shared his take on this issue. As per his conversation with Jon Machota, the successor is Jerry Jones’ family. The reporter has revealed the Cowboys owner’s take where Jones has said, “As far as operational, I’m as content if I got hit by a car tomorrow that the management of the future has been prepared, been through it, had their ups and downs, certainly had some success and certainly had their share of failure.”
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on how prepared his family is to run the franchise after him: “As far as operational, I’m as content if I got hit by a car tomorrow that the management of the future has been prepared, been through it, had their ups and downs, certainly had some success…

The owner also added, “I’m prepared for all of that. I’m fortunate that my family has that right there.” Jerry Jones has led the franchise for the past 36 years since he bought it in 1989. He was only 46 when he bought the organization for $140 million dollars which was a crazy amount of money back then. And guess what? The Cowboys’ current valuation is above $10 billion.
After his acquisition, the Cowboys won their first Super Bowl in 1992 against the Buffalo Bills. And then in 1993, they defeated the Bills again to win it back-to-back. The next year, Jerry Jones could have won a three-peat but the Cowboys lost in the conference round against the 49ers. Then in 1995, the Cowboys won their third Super Bowl under Jerry Jones. What an achievement Jerry has had in the early years!
But after their three SBs in the 1990s, the Cowboys haven’t won any more. In fact, the Cowboys haven’t even qualified for the conference round after the 1995 season. That’s why fans sometimes call it a ‘curse’. But Jerry Jones might not have forgotten his three wins and must be eager to repeat it. They tried it last year by signing Dak Prescott to a staggering $240 million contract under McCarthy’s head coaching, but things went down differently.
Meanwhile, the hard-to-read owner and GM of the Cowboys has admitted a key risk with his new HC appointee.
Jerry Jones defiant and concerned about Brian Schottenheimer’s appointment
After parting ways with Mike McCarthy, so much water has flown under the Dallas bridge. The ‘Deion Sanders and Pete Carroll-related’ rumors are well known to everyone. But the Cowboys owner has believed in his OC. Brian Schottenheimer has been appointed as the head coach of the Cowboys. But people are a bit concerned about the capabilities of Schottenheimer. But Jerry Jones has fired shots at doubters while admitting the risk of his appointment. First up, talking about the risk of Schottenheimer, Jerry Jones said, “This is as big a risk as you can take. As big a risk as you can take. No head coaching experience.”

And talking about the support he has for Schottenheimer is insane. Reporters asked Jerry Jones about the new coach and his capabilities in a press conference. Jones said, “How often do you have a chance to take advantage of all of that at 50 years old, which is a puppy. Yet he’s had 25 years being around the kind of things he’s going to have to draw on to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I like his baggage. I like his baggage. And I like that experience.” The new coach has no head coaching experience, but he has served for the Rams, Chiefs, Jets, Colts, Seahawks, and Jaguars till 2021. And then, since 2021, he has been working for the Cowboys.
He also added, “I get my proverbial ass kicked over needing people in my comfort zone. Without this thing being about me in any way, if you don’t think I can’t operate out of my comfort zone, you’re so wrong. It’s unbelievable.” Obviously, Jones has picked a person from his comfort zone.
