When Jacoby Brissett signed with the Patriots, you can bet he wasn’t looking to relive his rookie days with the team. But here we are. It looks like 22-year-old Drake Maye is ready to steal the spotlight, and maybe even the Patriots’ future; right out from under him. Tough break, Jacoby! Well, Maye’s actions aren’t without merit. The guy saw an opportunity and grabbed it and since then, the rookie has been impressing the roster despite the team’s poor season.

The quarterback suffered a head injury early in the first quarter against the Chargers in week 17 but returned to the field in the second. When asked about Maye’s plan for this week’s game, the head coach, Jerod Mayo, stated He’s a competitor. He wants to play…Drake is our starting quarterback. If he’s healthy and he’s ready to go through this week of practice, then he’ll play.”

A couple of words for Maye? Well, he’s a tough guy, that too in his rookie season, as he’s all set to return to the gridiron against the Buffalo Bills. It seems like there’s nothing much for Brissett this season, who has started 5 out of 8 games so far, and the head coach, Jerod Mayo, has confirmed that after starting Maye as their starting QB.

The QB was questionable to return to the field after being hit by the Chargers’ cornerback, Cam Hart, on a third-down play. However, the HC confirmed in an in-game interview that he’s all set to return for the game. Talk about a solid rookie season for a 22-year-old quarterback.

If we put the Patriots’ overall season aside, no doubt the rookie had a standout season with one more game remaining to wrap it up on a high note. Add an injury to it, it becomes quite impressive as well.

So, the 2024 NFL Draft, 3rd overall pick? That’s Drake Maye for the New England team. And as for his rookie season, he pretty much gave them what they were hoping for, well, except for that whole embarrassing season thing. Out of 12 games that he played, Maye started in all but one game piled up over 2,000 yards with an average of 6.8 yards per carry, and scored 15 touchdowns.

“I’m preparing like I’m the starter. I’m looking forward to being out there.” Maye said after the injury ahead of the Patriots VS. Bills showdown. “I’m ready to be out there and compete and win…I’m looking forward to getting experience in these close games you can’t replicate in practice.”

Well, it’s pretty much clear that it’s a season wrap for Brissett who united with the New England team after playing his rookie season in 2016. Though he started for the Patriots in the first game, after four consecutive losses and a struggling season, the head coach went for the rookie QB.

With an average of 5.1 yards per carry, Jacoby Brissett amassed just 826 yards so far and racked up 2 touchdowns. Well, the QB has a year-long contract with the New England team, and as it appears, it’s unlikely for him to get a contract extension in the offseason. Meanwhile, Drake Maye is all set with his rookie competitive spirit to wrap his season up on a high note.
