If you are a New England Patriots fan, the start of the 2024 season has not gone as you must have planned, right? 1-3 is surely not what Jerod Mayo must have had in mind either while stepping into the new season. The team’s QB Jacoby Brissett hasn’t been productive for the Pats and has been criticized even within the locker room. So much so that there have been rumors of a mutiny over him by his teammates. However, amid such a situation, HC Mayo has officially announced the news of benching their running back, Rhamondre Stevenson.

The Pats HC’s decision to bench Stevenson came after four costly and disappointing starts from his side. While explaining the current situation, Mayo said, “I had a conversation with Rhamondre and he won’t be starting … I’ll be upfront and transparent”. Mayo also mentioned that even though the 26-year-old QB is currently being sidelined, he will surely get the chance later in the season to start again. The HC added, “He will play. And he understands he has to protect the football going forward…

The 26-year-old running back has struggled with fumbles in all games since the start of the season. Although the Pats recovered from his initial fumbles earlier this season, teams like the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers exploited these fumbles for their advantage in weeks 3 and 4, making things miserable for the New England side.

The player has also acknowledged his lack of performance and has accepted the HC’s decision to drop him for week 5. While talking to the media, the young Patriot said, “It’s the elephant in the room. I dropped the [pigskin] four times, so whatever the coaching staff has planned, I’m rocking with it.” After losing his starting spot, Stevenson has to work hard to get it back. As for the Pats, now it needs to be seen if Stevenson’s departure from the starting eleven changes their fate. While that situation is wrapped up, the whole Jacoby Brissett situation is still unresolved at the moment.

Jerod Mayo is reportedly not worried about the rumored mutiny in the Pats’ dressing room. Instead, the man is fully focused on winning against the Dolphins on Sunday. The Pats are currently on a three-game losing streak. The Dolphins, who also lost their last three games, seem to be the best chance for New England to get back on the winning tracks.

In a recent interview before Friday’s practice, Mayo addressed this rumored ‘mutiny’. The HC mentioned that players were frustrated in the locker room after Sunday’s emphatic 13-30 loss against the 49ers. However, he looked more focused on the team’s next game rather than this internal conflict in question. He said, “Look, my focus is on the Dolphins 100 percent and the guys in the locker room.” Mayo then went on to say that even though he was present in the locker room, he didn’t hear anything about the mutiny as it was mentioned by the team’s website writer Evan Lazar, who reported that the team was “teetering on a mutiny.”

As of now, the Pats are currently standing at the third spot of the AFC East table. Mayo and Co. will surely try their best to turn things around. Mutiny or not, the team has to fight as one if they want to get past this purple patch of their form and challenge the Bills, who are leading their division, for the AFC East title and further place themselves as possible Super Bowl contenders.
